[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 사천시의 대표 명산인 와룡산 자락에 위치한 청룡사가 사천 9경 중 하나인 청룡사 겹벚꽃 개화시기에 맞춰 12일부터 28일까지 ‘제3회 청룡사 겹벚꽃 축제’를 연다.
겹벚꽃 축제는 코로나19 팬데믹 이후 자연을 찾던 상춘객들이 청룡사 겹벚꽃 개화시기에 폭발적으로 방문한 것을 계기로 시작됐으며 올해로 3번째 돌을 맞이한다.
청룡사는 와룡산 와룡사의 산내 암자인 진불암의 옛터로 40년전 장룡선사 창건 당시, 겹벚꽃을 심어 사찰을 장엄한 것을 인연으로 축제로 이어지게 됐다.
겹벚꽃은 일반 벚꽃보다 2주 정도 개화시기가 늦으나, 꽃송이가 크고 꽃잎이 진한 핑크빛을 띄고 있어 그 풍성함과 화려함이 볼거리이다.
청룡사 겹벚꽃은 지난해 사천시에서 새로 정비한 ‘사천9경’에 선정돼 축제 기간동안 1일 약 2,000여명 이상의 방문객이 찾고 있으며 청룡사 극락 계단은 줄을 서서 사진을 찍을 수 있는 포토-존으로 유명하다.
또한, 축제기간 동안 음악회, 강원석 시인의 시화전, 겹벚꽃마켓 등 다채로운 즐길거리가 같이 마련돼 방문객들의 눈과 귀를 즐겁게 한다.
