고양특례시는 7일 영국 명문 사립학교인 킹스칼리지 스쿨(King`s College School)과 고양경제자유구역 내 외국교육기관 설립을 위한 협약(MOU)을 체결했다고 밝혔다.
이는 이동환 고양시장이 킹스칼리지 본교로 유치 요청 서한을 보내는 등 적극적인 유치 노력을 기울여 온 끝에 킹스칼리지 이사회의 승인을 얻어낸 결과이다.
올해 경제자유구역 최종 지정 신청을 앞둔 고양시는, 고양시를 대한민국을 대표하는 글로벌 교육특구 및 동북아시아 교육 허브로 육성하겠다는 이동환 고양시장의 포부에 따라 영재학교, 과학고, 국제학교, 글로벌캠퍼스 등 여러 명문 학교 유치에 나서고 있다.
