윤석열 대통령이 15일 '부처님 오신 날'을 맞아 "민생 작은 부분까지 꼼꼼히 챙겨 국민 행복을 더욱 키우겠다"고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령은 이날 오전 서울 종로구 조계사 대웅전 앞 특설법단에서 열린 '불기 2568년 부처님 오신 날 봉축 법요식'에 참석해 축사에서 "늘 부처님 마음을 새기며 올바른 국정을 펼치기 위해 최선을 다하겠다"며 이같이 말했다. 축사에 앞서 윤 대통령은 대한불교조계종 총무원장 진우스님·원로의장 자광스님과 함께 헌등했다.
그러면서 "불교는 우리 정신문화 근간이었으며 지금도 사회를 건강하게 만드는 중추 역할을 하고 있다"며 "나라가 어려울 땐 국민 마음을 모아 위기를 극복하는 데 앞장섰다"고 말했다.
이어 "최근엔 한국불교가 젊은 세대들 마음을 끌어당기고 세계인들에게도 큰 주목·관심을 받고 있다"며 "템플스테이·선명상을 비롯 다양한 사회적 활동으로 국민 마음 건강을 챙기고 문화적 다양성·생명 존중 정신을 널리 전해 온 결과"라고 말했다.
