(브레이크뉴스인천 문광수 기자) 인천문화재단 인천아트플랫폼이 지난 7월 23일 공고를 통해 ‘2024 인천미술 올해의 작가’로 염지희(1985년생) 작가가 선정됐다고 밝혔다.
재단에 따르면, 인천아트플랫폼의 전시 사업인 ‘인천미술 올해의 작가’는 인천연고의 중견예술인과 청년예술인을 격년으로 선정하여 개인전을 개최하는 것으로, 올해는 만40세 미만의 청년예술인을 대상으로 심의를 진행했다.
청년부문 첫 선정자인 염지희 작가는 오는 8월에 인천아트플랫폼 창작공간인 스튜디오에 입주하여 창작활동을 진행한 후 내년 2025년 3월 전시장 1(B동)에서 개인전을 개최하게 된다.
재단은 2024년부터 추천제도를 도입하여, 7명의 추천위원으로부터 12명의 인천 청년 예술가들을 추천을 받아 심의했다.
지난 7월 10일 진행된 심의위원회에서는 숙고 끝에 염지희 작가를 선정했다.
심상용 서울대학교 교수가 위원장을 맡은 심의위원회에서는 12명의 후보자 모두 우열을 가리기 어려울 정도로 충분한 역량을 지니고 있었기에, 심의 결과를 도출하기가 쉽지 않았다고 밝혔다.
심의의 기준이었던 ‘탁월한 창작성과’, ‘국내외의 활발한 활동’, ‘작가로서의 지속가능성’ 외에 무엇보다도 ‘인천’이라는 키워드를 가장 중요한 요소로 고려했다.

홍익대학교에서 영상 영화와 순수 회화를 복수 전공, 동대학원 회화과를 졸업했다. ‘퍼블릭아트 뉴히어로’, ‘아트인컬쳐 동방의 요괴들’ 등 신진 작가 인큐베이팅 프로그램으로 작품 활동을 시작했다.
