대전시는 23일 열린 제33차 행복도시 광역계획권 교통협의회에서 신교통수단인 3칸 굴절차량을 정식으로 소개했다고 밝혔다.
이날 협의회 위원들은 건양대학교병원 차고지를 방문해 차량의 외관과 내부 시설을 세밀하게 살폈다.
3칸 굴절버스는 일반 버스보다 월등한 수송 능력을 자랑하며, 도심 내 교통 혼잡을 해소할 ‘구원투수’로 기대를 모으고 있다.
특히 대량 수송과 정시성 확보라는 두 마리 토끼를 동시에 잡을 수 있다는 점이 가장 큰 강점이다.
현장을 찾은 위원들은 차량의 안전 장치와 회전 반경, 승객 편의 시설 등을 점검하며 향후 운영 계획을 청취했다.
시는 이번 신교통수단 도입이 단순히 차량 한 대를 늘리는 차원을 넘어, 대전의 도시 경쟁력을 한 단계 끌어올리는 계기가 될 것으로 내다보고 있다.
대전시 관계자는 전국에서 처음 도입되는 새로운 시스템인 만큼 오는 6월까지 안전성을 완벽히 검증하고, 10월부터 단계적으로 정식 개통해 대전 교통의 새로운 표준을 만들겠다고 밝혔다.
시는 앞으로 3칸 굴절버스를 중심으로 광역 교통망을 더욱 촘촘히 엮어 주민들의 이동 편의를 극대화할 방침이다.
