미래인재 육성을 위해 민사고를 전폭 지원해온 KCC가 최근 민사고 학생 5명에게 ‘정상영 장학금’을 전달했다.
KCC(대표: 정재훈)는 8월 20일, 강원도 횡성군에 위치한 민족사관고등학교(이하 민사고)에서 장학증서 수여식을 가졌다.
이날 수여식을 통해 입학생 중 가장 성적이 우수한 학생 5명은 3년 전액 ‘영혜장학금’을 받게 됐다.
‘영혜(永慧) 장학금’은 인재 양성을 통해 국가에 기여한다는 '인재보국'의 정신을 강조해온 고(故) 정상영 명예회장의 유지에 따라 설립된 장학금으로, 명예회장이 남긴 100억 원의 유산으로 조성됐다. 정상영 명예회장은 정주영 현대그룹 창업주의 막냇동생으로 2021년 별세했다. 정 명예회장은 당시 1500억 원 상당의 주식과 장남 정몽진 회장의 사재를 더해 총 2000억 원을 장학 사업과 박물관 건립 등으로 기부한 바 있다.
이와 더불어, KCC 정몽진 회장이 글로벌 인재 양성을 위해 사재로 조성한 30억 원 규모의 선혜(善慧) 장학금 역시 학생들의 학비 부담을 줄이며 학업에만 전념할 수 있도록 하고 있다.
장학금 지원 외에도 KCC는 친환경 도료 연구 체험학습과 석·박사 연구원 멘토링 등 민사고와 함께 미래인재 육성을 위한 다양한 지원 프로그램을 진행하고 있다. 아울러 정 명예회장의 유산으로 조성된 기금을 활용해 민사고 기숙사, 교실, 강당, 체육관 등 교내시설을 정비했다.
KCC 관계자는 “故 정상영 명예회장의 뜻을 이어받아 민사고 학생들이 보다 좋은 환경에서 학업에 전념하고 글로벌 인재로 성장할 수 있도록 지속적으로 지원할 것”이라며, “장학금 지원뿐만 아니라 학생들의 역량 강화와 미래 준비를 위한 다양한 지원을 이어갈 예정이다”라고 전했다.

KCC, which has been fully supporting Minsago to foster future talent, recently awarded five Minsago students with the 'Normal Young Scholarship'.
On August 20, KCC (CEO: Jaehoon Jung) held a scholarship award ceremony at Minsago High School (hereinafter referred to as Minsago) located in Hwaseong-gun, Gangwon-do.
Through the ceremony, five students with the highest grades among the entering students received the 'Younghye Scholarship' in full for three years.
The 'Young Hye Scholarship' is a scholarship established in accordance with the legacy of the late Chairman Emeritus Chung Eui-young, who emphasized the spirit of 'Talent Treasury' to contribute to the nation by fostering talented people. Mr. Chung was the youngest brother of Hyundai Group founder Chung Ju-young, who passed away in 2021. At the time, Chairman Emeritus Chung donated KRW 150 billion worth of stock and his eldest son, Chairman Chung Mong-jin's personal wealth, totaling KRW 200 billion to scholarship programs and museum construction.
In addition, the KRW 3 billion Sunhye Scholarship, which was established by KCC Chairman Mong-jin Chung to foster global talent, helps students focus on their studies while reducing the burden of tuition fees.
In addition to the scholarships, KCC also conducts various support programs to foster future talent with the private sector, including experiential learning on eco-friendly paint research and mentoring of master's and doctoral researchers. In addition, KCC has used funds raised from the legacy of Chairman Emeritus Chung to improve campus facilities such as the Minsago dormitory, classrooms, auditorium, and gymnasium.
“Inheriting the will of the late Chairman Emeritus Jung, we will continue to support Minsago students so that they can devote themselves to their studies in a better environment and grow into global talents,” said a KCC official. ”We will continue to provide scholarships and other support to strengthen their capabilities and prepare them for the future.”
