인천시에 따르면, ‘인천9경’은 ‘경치(景)’의 의미를 넘어 ‘경험(經)’의 의미로 확장해, 단순히 보기만 하는 관광지가 아닌 관광객들의 다양한 경험을 이끌어내어 공유할 수 있는 생동감 있는 관광지로 발굴하고자 기획됐다.
이번에 선정된 ‘인천9경’은 1883년 개항장 과거로 시간여행 떠나기, 월미바다열차 타고 낭만 가득 월미도 즐기기, 도심 속 포구 소래포구에서 생태 자연 체험하기, 야경 명소 계양 아라온에서 빛의 거리 구경하기, 송도센트럴파크에서 미래도시 산책하기, 영종 씨사이드파크에서 바닷길 따라 레일바이크 타기, 강화읍 원도심에서 도보 탐방하기, 신.시.모도 삼형제 섬 일주하기, 최북단 백령도에서 천연기념물 물범 만나기 등이다.
