대학과 캠퍼스의 기존 개념을 뛰어넘는 국내 최초 공유형 캠퍼스가 세종에 문을 열었다.
세종특별자치시는 25일 4-2생활권 집현동 공동캠퍼스 맞이광장에서 한덕수 국무총리가 참석한 가운데 ‘세종 공동캠퍼스 개교기념 및 비전선포식’이 개최됐다고 밝혔다.
세종시는 공동캠퍼스가 지역과 교육이 상생하는 첫 성공 모델로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 운영비를 보조하고 구성원들이 학업에 집중할 수 있도록 생활 여건 개선에 나설 계획이다.
특히 학생들의 편리한 통학 환경을 조성하기 위해 대중교통 정비에 집중한다.
앞서 지난 8월 3일 운행을 개시한 B7 노선과 함께 272·273번 노선이 이달 초부터 공동캠퍼스까지 운행을 개시했으며 1001·1002번 등 광역 노선의 연장 운행 방안도 검토하고 있다.
또 지난 7월부터는 세종 공동캠퍼스가 위치한 4생활권에 수요응답형버스 ‘이응버스’를 확대해 운행 중이다.
이 밖에 학생들의 이동 편의를 높이기 위해 캠퍼스 내에 공용자전거와 전기자전거를 추가 배치 완료한 상태다.
공동캠퍼스에는 이달 서울대 행정대학원 등 4개 대학이 개교했고 2029년까지 7개 대학, 3000여 명이 입주할 예정이다.
이번 공동캠퍼스 개교를 통해 융합교육·연구 환경이 조성되고 청년층의 인구 유입을 통한 지역경제 활성화 효과도 볼 수 있을 것으로 세종시는 기대하고 있다.
최민호 시장은 “우리시는 공동캠퍼스가 교육 공간을 넘어 우리지역 발전과 글로벌 혁신의 중심에 설 수 있도록 아낌없는 노력을 기울이고 새로운 형태의 스마트 교육을 선도하는 도시로 나아갈 것”이라며 “여러 대학이 하나의 공동체가 되어 미래를 위한 새로운 모델을 제시할 수 있도록 시가 적극 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
