김원배-이선주-정무훈 3인이 공저한 “성적 쑥쑥! 중학생 과목별 독서비법”이 출간(도서출판 오래)됐다.
이 책은 저자들은 프롤로그에서 “학교 시험이 끝나고 상담을 하다 보면 공부한 만큼 성적이 나오질 않아서 학원을 바꿔야겠다는 친구들이 있어요. 성적 오르지 않은 것이 학원 탓일까요? 그렇지는 않겠죠. 그 원인은 자기 자신의 습관에서 찾아야 됩니다. 저는 학생들에게 학습 및 독서 습관에 대해 질문하고 방향성을 알려줍니다. 역사 공부를 어려워하는 학생들에게는 교과서와 문제집만 풀어보지 말고 역사 관련 소설책을 읽어보도록 추천하고 있어요. 인류역사의 오랜 세월을 책 한 권에 담은 것이 교과서인데, 한 권의 교과서를 읽고 공부한다고 해서 인류 전체의 역사를 쉽게 이해하는 것은 어렵겠죠. 교과서는 함축되어 있어요. 역사 과목에서 성적을 올리기 위해서는 당연히 역사 관련 책들을 읽어야 해요”라고 설명하면서 “요즘 역사 소설 책들 재미있어요. 재미있는 역사 소설을 읽으면 역사적인 사건이나 그 시대의 문화들을 쉽게 이해할 수 있죠. 즉 독서와 학습적 맥락이 연결되는 것입니다.”고 소개했다.
이어 “왜 책을 읽어야 할까요? 대학수능고사 만점 받은 학생들 인터뷰 기사를 보면 어려서부터 체계적으로 책을 읽은 덕분에 수능고사에서 만점을 받을 수 있었다고 말합니다. 매일 매일 읽는 독서 습관은 뇌의 발달에도 영향을 미치고, 성적향상, 비판적 사고능력, 질문하기, 문해력 향상, 자신을 이해하는 능력, 생각을 정리할 줄 아는 능력 등을 기르게 됩니다. 좋은 대학 진학을 위한 독서와 공부가 아니라 여러분들의 삶 속에서 즐겁고 행복한 일을 하면서 살아가기 위해 독서를 해야 하는 것입니다. 더 많이 읽을수록 더 나은 결과를 얻을 수 있다는 것을 항상 기억해야 합니다.”면서 ”책 읽기가 어려울 때도 있습니다. 어쩌면 이해되지 않는 단어 때문에 책에 대한 흥미를 잃을 수도 있어요. 이럴 때는 이해가 쉬운 책부터 조금씩 조금씩 읽으면서 재미를 느껴면서 꾸준히 이어 갑니다. 독서는 진로목표를 이루어가는 다리라고 생각해 봅니다. 책에서 얻은 지식과 기술은 평생 동안 세상을 살아가는데 사용할 도구입니다. 역사적 사건, 과학적 발견, 창의적 이야기 등 무엇을 읽든 여러분들에게는 직업과 인생의 방향성을 선택하는데 도움이 될 것입니다“고 강조했다.
또한 “책은 다양한 문화, 역사, 제도 등 경험 들을 배울 수 있는 아주 좋은 방법입니다. 이를 통해 세상을 바라보는 관점이 변하게 되고, 다른 민족, 다른 사람들을 이해하고 공감하는데 도움이 될 것 입니다. 세상에 대해 열린 마음으로 접근할 수 있는 사람으로 변하게 되는 것이예요. 독서는 평생 동안 함께 하게 될 습관입니다. 공부를 잘할 수 있는 것을 뛰어넘어 개인적인 성장과 행복한 미래를 만들어 가는 것입니다.”고 피력하고 “중학생 시기는 남이 들려주는 이야기를 듣고 즐기기만 했던 수동적인 아동기와는 달리 한 개인이 자신의 이야기를 만들어내기 위해서 의식적으로 진로 방향을 설정하고, 노력해야 하는 시기입니다. 스스로 계획을 세우고 자기주도적으로 학습활동을 할 수 있는 습관을 갖추는 것이 매우 중요합니다. <성적 쑥쑥! 중학생 과목별 독서비법>은 과목별 학습 계획을 세우고 자기주도적으로 삶의 방향을 설정하는 데 도움을 주고, 이를 바탕으로 중학교 시기에 갖춰야할 역량을 기르도록 하는데 도움을 주고 있는 책입니다.”고 강조했다.

▲정무훈=어릴 때는 혼자 너무 심심해서 집에 있는 책을 모조리 읽었고 커서는 세상을 알고 싶어서 탐험가처럼 책을 읽는 사람. 천국이 있다면 도서관과 닮았을 거라고 상상하는 활자 중독자. 어쩌다 어른이 되었고 책을 읽다 보니 국어 선생님이 된 사람. 매일 아침 아이들과 운동장을 숨차게 달리고 틈틈이 첼로를 배우고 타로카드로 달콤 쌉싸름한 연애 상담을 해주는 상담 선생님. 인생의 바다는 부드럽게 들어오는 밀물보다 빠져나가는 썰물이 강하고 깊다고 생각하는 진로 선생님. 하지만 파도처럼 부딪치며 살다 보면 눈물같은 모래알이 모여서 백사장을 가득 채울 거라고 믿는 사람. 아침 햇살이 눈 시리게 쏟아지는 날에 사랑하는 사람들과 다정하게 그 해변을 천천히 걷고 싶은 사람이다.

“Grades Go Up! Reading Secrets for Middle School Students by Subject,” co-authored by Kim Won-bae, Lee Seon-ju, and Jeong Moo-hoon, has been published (published by Orae Publishing).
In the prologue, the authors say, “When we consult after school exams, some of my friends say that they need to change academies because their grades don’t match the amount they studied. Is it the academy’s fault that their grades haven’t improved? That’s not true. The cause should be found in their own habits. I ask students about their study and reading habits and give them direction. For students who have difficulty studying history, I recommend that they read historical novels instead of just solving textbooks and workbooks. A textbook is a book that contains the long history of mankind, but it would be difficult to easily understand the entire history of mankind by reading and studying just one textbook. Textbooks are condensed. In order to improve your grades in history, you should naturally read books related to history,” he explained, adding, “These days, historical novels are fun. If you read interesting historical novels, you can easily understand historical events or the culture of that era. In other words, reading and learning context are connected.” He continued, “Why should you read books? If you look at an interview article with students who got perfect scores on the college entrance exam, they say that they were able to get perfect scores on the college entrance exam because they systematically read books from a young age. Reading every day also affects the development of the brain, and it helps improve grades, critical thinking skills, questioning, literacy, the ability to understand yourself, and the ability to organize thoughts. You should read not just to get into a good university, but to live your life doing enjoyable and happy things. You should always remember that the more you read, the better results you will get.” He continued, “There are times when reading books is difficult. You may lose interest in books because of words you don’t understand. In such cases, start with books that are easy to understand and read them little by little until you feel the fun and continue steadily. I think reading is a bridge to achieving career goals. The knowledge and skills gained from books are tools that you can use to live in the world throughout your life. Whether you read historical events, scientific discoveries, or creative stories, it will help you choose your career and the direction of your life,” he emphasized. He also said, “Books are a great way to learn about various cultures, histories, systems, and other experiences. This will change your perspective on the world and help you understand and empathize with other ethnicities and people. You will become a person who can approach the world with an open mind. Reading is a habit that will stay with you throughout your life. It goes beyond being able to study well and creates personal growth and a happy future.” He added, “Middle school is a time when, unlike passive childhood when you just listened to and enjoyed stories told by others, each individual must consciously set a career direction and make an effort to create their own story. It is very important to develop the habit of making plans and engaging in self-directed learning activities. <Grades Grow Up! “The <Reading Secrets for Middle School Students by Subject> helps students set up study plans for each subject and independently set their own direction in life, and based on this, helps them develop the capabilities they need to have in middle school.”

▲Wonbae Kim = He served as an adjunct professor at Catholic University, a career guidance counselor at Jangchung Middle School, and vice president of the Seoul Middle School Career Guidance Counseling Teachers Association. He has consistently provided education to teachers and parents at schools and various institutions on topics related to career and reading, such as <Reading Education Linked to Career>, <Medical Treatment is the Power of Thinking>, and <Reading for Capacity Development is the Answer>. ▲Lee Seon-ju = Currently a career guidance counselor at Gwanggyo Lake Middle School, a counselor at Suwon Youth Hope Lighthouse, and vice president of the Suwon Career Guidance Guidance Teachers Association. Participated in the revised research of the Careernet Career Interest Test, developing and reviewing items, and providing consulting services, and has been giving lectures to parents on topics such as <High School Guidance> and <Various Types of High Schools and Wise Middle School Life>. ▲Jeong Moo-hoon = When he was young, he read all the books at home because he was bored alone, and when he grew up, he read books like an explorer because he wanted to know the world. He is a print addict who imagines that if there is a heaven, it would resemble a library. A person who somehow became an adult and became a Korean teacher while reading books. A counselor who runs breathlessly around the playground with children every morning, learns the cello in his spare time, and gives bittersweet love advice using tarot cards. A career guidance teacher who believes that the sea of life is a deep and strong ebb tide rather than a gentle inflow tide. However, a person who believes that if you live your life crashing like waves, the grains of sand like tears will gather and fill the white sand beach. A person who wants to walk slowly and affectionately on that beach with loved ones on a day when the morning sunlight pours down dazzlingly.
