경기도가 지난 10월 10일 경기 R&DB센터에서 ‘2024년 경기도 ESG 정책위원회’를 열고 교수, 기업단체·시민단체 대표 등으로 11명의 위원을 위촉했다.
ESG 정책위원회 위원들은 2026년 10월까지 총 2년의 임기 동안 경기도 ESG 정책 등에 대한 심의와 자문, 경기도 ESG 활성화 지원 등의 역할을 할 예정이다.
경기도는 앞으로 ESG 정책위원회의 자문을 반영해 경기도 ESG 활성화 기본계획을 발표하고 이를 31개 시군으로 확산해 나갈 계획이다.
ESG(Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance)는 환경·사회·지배구조를 뜻하는 말로, 기업 또는 기업에 대한 투자의 지속가능성과 사회적 영향을 측정하는 요소를 말한다. 경기도는 광역지자체 최초로 ESG 전담국인 사회혁신경제국을 만들고 ESG 조례를 제정하는 등 ESG 추진체계를 마련한 바 있다. 특히 공공기관 ESG 공시를 제도화하고 중소기업 ESG 경영을 지원하며 ESG 선도대학을 운영하는 등 ESG 정책을 선도적으로 이끌어왔다.
경기도는 ESG가 중소기업을 시작으로 사회 전반에 확산될 수 있도록 다양한 지원 정책을 추진할 계획이다.
이날 회의에서는 ‘제1차 (2024~2028)경기도 ESG 활성화 기본계획(안)’ 수립에 대한 논의가 이뤄졌다. 경기도는 논의된 세부 내용을 바탕으로 실국별 의견조회를 거쳐 기본계획 방침을 수립할 계획이다.
경기도 박연경 사회혁신경제국장은 “ESG는 이제 더 이상 선택이 아닌, 우리 기업과 사회가 지속 가능한 미래로 나아가기 위한 필수적인 기준”이라며, “도내 ESG 확산을 위해 ESG 정책위원회의 적극적인 역할을 기대한다”고 말했다.
