윤 박사님과 보고 또 보아도 가슴을 걸어오는 숨은 미소를 찾아 불교 조각 여래의 바다 전을 다시 찾았다. 2천여 년을 거슬러 오르는 계량할 수 없는 무량의 감동이 가슴에 흠씬 하다.
돌아오는 길 윤 박사님의 안내로 인사동 건너편 안국빌딩에 계시는 연출가 표재순 선생님을 찾아뵈었다. 연극과 드라마와 뮤지컬은 물론 88서울올림픽 개막식과 폐막식 제작단장 겸 총연출과 2002한일월드컵 전야제 총연출에서부터 2015년 경주세계문화엑스포의 ‘실크로드 경주 2015’ 총감독으로 엑스포 사상 최고의 성과로 평가받았던 한국의 대표적인 연출가이시다.
세종문화회관 이사장과 대학교수를 역임하며 문화예술의 발전과 후진 양성에 신명을 바친 선생의 업적 중 1976년 국립극장에서 프랑스 국민가수 에디트 피아프의 ‘빠담 빠담 빠담’을 우리의 창작 뮤지컬로 탄생시킨 선구적인 열정은 오늘날 뮤지컬 시대를 탄생시킨 바탕이었다.
TBC, MBC, SBS를 거치며 30여 년간 시대를 관통한 주요한 드라마를 제작 감독하신 선생의 작품은 대표적인 국민 드라마 ‘수사반장’과 동의보감의 허준의 일대기를 품은 사극 드라마 ‘집념’과 조선왕조 여인상의 비극적인 모습을 그린 사극 드라마 ‘교동 마님’에서부터 ‘대원군’과 ‘조선왕조 오백 년’에 이르는 소중한 드라마를 기획 연출하였다. 나아가 은폐된 진실의 실체를 파헤치는 시사 프로그램 ‘그것이 알고 싶다’가 선생의 기획에서 탄생하였다.
연출 역사의 산증인으로 문화예술 기획의 현장을 섭렵한 원로 연출가인 선생은 팔순을 훌쩍 넘긴 노령의 삶을 불태우며 이순재, 고두심, 임동진, 이정길, 정태우와 같은 대배우들과 함께 역사에 담긴 애환을 그려낸 '누가 이 사람을 모르시나요'라는 음악극을 지난 6월 27일 성남아트센터 오페라하우스에서 개막하여 큰 박수와 주목을 받았다.
연신 울려대는 핸드폰 너머에서 들려오는 익숙한 대배우들의 음성이 지방 공연을 앞두고 이북5도청에 마련된 연습실 일정 문의였다. 30분 간격으로 찾아오는 내방객 틈새에도 자리를 지켜주신 선생은 준비 중이신 국경이 있을 수 없는 ‘어머니’에 대한 뮤지컬 기획을 상세하게 말씀해 주셨다.

이어 프랑스 국민가수 에디트 피아프와 일본의 국민가수 미소라 히바리에 대하여 그동안 살펴온 필자의 이야기를 들으시다가 ‘진즉에 만나야 했어!’,‘왜 이제야 데려온 거야!’며 윤 박사를 향해 소리쳐 함께 웃으며 연습실로 가셔야 하는 일정에 선생님과 사무실을 나와 헤어졌다. 바쁜 일정이 지나면 다시 만나자는 말씀을 안고 돌아오는 길 여래의 바다 불교 조각전에서 품어온 미소가 드높은 가을 하늘에 구름으로 흐르고 있었다. artwww@naver.com
