[브레이크뉴스경기남부=용인 이현준기자] 용인특례시가 16일 ‘반도체 글로벌 네트워크 구축 국제협력을 위한 업무협약’을 맺었다.
조지아텍 글로벌 산업기술 협력센터는 미국 조지아주 애틀랜타에 있는 대학 조지아텍(GT, Georgia Institude of Technology)의 글로벌 산업기술 협력센터(K-GTSEC)의 한국의 산업통상자원부가 조지아텍과 협력해 대학 내에 한미 반도체 분야 기술 협력 거점을 마련하기 위해 올해 6월 설치된 것이다.
이상일 용인특례시장은 이날 기흥구 동백동 미디어센터에서, 여운홍 조지아텍 글로벌 산업기술 협력센터장은 미국 현지에서 화상 회의를 통해 비대면으로 협약을 체결했다.
협약에 따라 양 기관은 용인특례시 반도체 산업의 경쟁력 강화를 위해 산·학·관 글로벌 네트워크를 구축하고 반도체 전문 인재 양성을 위한 교육·연구·산학 활동을 위해 협력하게 된다.
또 이상일 시장 공약사업으로 올해 교육부 중앙투자심사를 통과한 반도체 마이스터고가 용인에 설립되면 국제 교류를 통해 우수 인재를 양성하는 등의 협력도 기울이기로 했다.
이상일 시장은 “반도체는 분야의 가장 중요한 것 중 하나가 인재 양성이라고 생각한다"며 "기술은 인재가 개발하는 것이고, 반도체의 새로운 영역을 개척하는 것도 인재”라고 강조했다.
이 시장은 “반도체 분야에서 훌륭한 성과를 내고 있는 조지아텍 글로벌 산업기술 협력센터가 용인의 반도체 역량 강화, 인재 양성을 위해 협약을 맺어서 매우 기쁘다”며 “조지아텍 글로벌 산업협력기술센터 측에 감사의 뜻을 전한다"고 했다.
여 센터장은 “용인특례시와 조지아텍 글로벌 산업기술 협력센터가 시의 반도체 경쟁력을 강화하고 국제적 협력을 다질 수 있는 협약을 맺게 돼 영광”이라며 “아직 설립한지 채 1년이 안된 센터이지만 조지아텍의 훌륭한 교수진과 센터의 연구 자원을 바탕으로 시의 반도체 산업이 발전하는 데 적극 협력해나가겠다”고 말했다.
