평택소리를 원주(源主)로 한 아시아의 화음 창출을 통한 세계의 소리를 만드는 평택시립국악관현악단이 창단됐다. 단기간 한국국악관현악단 대표할 신성악단으로 올라선 이 악단은 박범훈 예술감독과 김재영 상임지휘자 두 기라성을 출항의 기수로 하여 닻을 올렸다. 지난 10월 12.13일 평택남부문화예술대강당과 16일 서울 세종문화회관에서 힘찬 뱃고동 같은 연이은 무대를 올렸다.
무대 자체가 감동이었다. 역시 스승과 제자인 두 장인이 이룩한 지난 역사가 다시 무대 위에 활짝 꽃을 피웠다. 1980년대 민요와 굿 그리고 풍장소리를 토대로, 국악관현악의 흥과 신명으로 젊은 신바람을 일군 박범훈 예술감독은 국악의 대중화 민족화 세계화를 주창하며, 한중일 오케스트라 아시아를 창단하며 아시아의 화음으로 세계를 종횡했다. 상임지휘자 김재영은 중앙국악관현악단.국립국악관현악단.안산국악관현악단.경기도립국악단을 거치며 매번 전국 최고 악단으로 만들어갔다. 현(絃)과 관(管)과 타(打)에 대한 집요한 화음창출에 천착하며 한국적인 앙상블을 창출했다. 또한 한중일 민족악기의 앙상블 창출은 가공할만한 성과를 족족 남겼다.
김재영은 산조명인의 연주같이 관현악 연주를 만든다. 산조의 떨림과 울림과 애완으로 섬세한 국악관현악의 아티큘레이션을 만든다. 그의 지휘는 본래 피리주자였던 본성대로 국악관현악 연주의 근본을 느끼게한다. 늘 전체적으로 안정적인 묵직함을 바탕으로 맺고 풀고 조이고 당기고 밀며 지휘한다. 그의 지휘는 늘 음화(音畵)같은 치장을 통해 풍경을 만든다.
연주로 부터 연주자들을 자유롭게 해주는 그의 지휘에 늘 감복한다. 흔히 말해 듣는 귀를 열린 귀로 만든다. 그리고 봄날 따뜻한 피리소리 처럼 부드러운 소리향은 정겨운 김남주 시인의 시 <그날이 오면> 중 '인간의 봄이 오면 사랑하는 사람이여, 내 그대 번쩍 들어올려 만인 머리위에서 빛나는 별이 되게 하리라~' 하던 노래가 절로 나오게 한다. 모두를 따뜻한 마음으로 열린시대를 여는 열린음악을 만든다.
이날 연주회는 박범훈 작곡 "푸살". 황호준 작곡 노래가락 주제에 의한 "영혼의 집"초연곡이 연주됐다. 소위 신구 작곡 명장들이 들려주는 신격(神格)의 음악언어를 통해 우리시대 장인들의 세공술을 본다. 단조로운 논조를 벗어나 다중적 확산과 집중과 시나브로 한판 신굿을 보여주었다. 황호준의 마술적 리얼리즘의 세계와 굿이 만나는 영혼의 집. 몽환적 환상의 구현을 통한 현실과 이상을 넘나드는 삶과 죽음의 이중법이 노래가락의 내밀한 흥이 만나고 있어 한층 깊어진 황호준의 맛과 멋을 본다.
오케스트라 아시아를 대표하는 미끼 미노루의 "고토 협주곡 소나무" 박범훈 작곡 " 얼후협주곡 향 (香)" 등 아시아화음의 고전이다. 가을의 비극같은 소나무 협주곡, 광활한 대륙을 누비는 자유로운 바람같은 향이 단단한 국악관현악단과 함께 자유롭고 심려한 카덴자를 고토와 얼후가 연주했다. 치밀하고 계산된 그러나 열린 마음으로 악단과 솔리스트를 조율하며 아시아의 화음이 창출됐다.
박범훈 작곡의 신작 단트렁협주곡 "베트남 아리랑". 단트렁이란 악기는 대나무로 된 양금과 비슷한 악기였다. 노래하는 단트렁 연주는 밀양아리랑과 베트남의 트롱껌이란 노래를 모티브로 시종 흥겹고 신나는 무대를 만들었다. 전혀 충돌이나 어색함없이 노련하게 숙련된 좋은 연주판이었다.

피날레는 신모듬과 함께 불멸의 곡이라할 피리협주곡 "창부타령". 작곡 및 피리 연주는 박범훈이다. 창부. 인왕산 국사당가면 갓쓰고 줄위에 올라 대피리 부는 창부가 있다. 대단한 신방이다. 불세출의 신방. 천하를 들썩이는 신명잽이.풍류객이다. 박범훈은 늘 그렇다. 피리소리에 창부타령을 엮어 마침내 끝내지 못한 창부굿을 하며 한판 연주회가 끝났다.
