[브레이크뉴스=정철규 기자] 진주시는 14일 1단계 초소형위성의 궤도진입 재도전을 위한 ‘JINJUSat-1B(진주샛원 비)’가 한국산업기술시험원(KTL) 우주부품시험센터에서 우주환경시험을 마치고 독일로 운송됐다고 밝혔다.
JINJUSat-1B는 독일 발사서비스업체 본사에서 최종 점검을 진행한 후 미국 스페이스X사의 팰콘9 발사체에 탑재돼 오는 2025년 3월 미국 캘리포니아주 반덴버그 우주군기지(Vandenberg Space Force Base)에서 발사될 예정이다.
진주시의 초소형위성 개발사업은 국내 기초지방자치단체로서는 최초이며, 지난 2019년 진주시, KTL, 경상국립대학교 등 3개 기관이 인증모델과 발사모델 개발, 경상국립대 석·박사 과정의 우주분야 전문인력 양성을 목표로 시작했다.
발사를 앞둔 초소형위성 JINJUSat-1B는 2U(1U: 가로·세로·높이가 각각 10cm인정육면체) 크기의 큐브위성으로 발사 후 위성에 장착된 3대의 카메라로 지구 사진촬영 임무를 수행하게 되며, 3개월 정도 운용될 예정이다.
시는 후속사업으로 경남도, KTL, 경상국립대와 함께 6U급의 ‘JINJUSat-2(진주샛투)’ 개발도 진행해 해수온 및 해색을 탐지할 수 있는 센서를 탑재해 경남도 연근해 감시 임무를 수행 할 예정이다.
진주시 관계자는 “JINJUSat-1은 우주분야 전문인력을 양성하고, 미래우주교육센터 공모사업 선정과 우주산업 클러스터 위성특화지구 지정의 밑거름이 되는 등 진주시의 우주항공산업 발전에 기여하겠다”고 말했다.
