특히 진주시는 지난 2020년 장관상, 지난 2021년 국무총리상, 지난 2022년 대통령상, 지난 2023년 장관상에 이어 5년 연속 수상의 쾌거를 이뤘다.
이번 평가는 도시의 지속 가능성, 생활 인프라 수준, 도시 경쟁력 향상 등을 기준으로 진행됐으며, 진주는 도시사회, 경제, 환경, 지원체계 등 4개 분야에서 뛰어난 성과를 인정받았다.
특히 이번 진주시의 수상은 중소도시가 대통령상을 연속 수상한 사례는 매우 드문 일로, 이번 수상은 더욱 의미가 깊다.
