21일 경주시에 따르면 문화체육관광부와 한국관광공사는 한국의 대표 관광지를 알리기 위해 2012년부터 2년 주기로 ‘한국관광 100선’을 선정해 발표하고 있다.
이 명단에 오른 관광지는 한국인과 외국인이 꼭 방문해야 할 대표 명소로 인정받는다.
이번 선정은 기존 한국관광 100선 데이터, 지자체 추천, 빅데이터 분석을 바탕으로 예비 후보지를 선정한 뒤 서면평가, 현장평가, 최종 심사를 거쳐 이뤄졌다.
경주시는 2개 권역(불국사, 대릉원)에서 6개 관광지(불국사, 석굴암, 동궁과 월지, 첨성대, 황리단길, 월정교)가 선정됐다.
경주는 2012년 첫 한국관광 100선 발표 이후 매번 명단에 이름을 올려 국내 최고의 관광도시로서 입지를 공고히 해왔다.
특히 불국사와 석굴암은 7회 연속 선정되는 영예를 안아 그 의미를 더했다.
주낙영 경주시장은 “한국관광 100선에 경주의 주요 관광지가 선정된 것은 국내외 관광객들에게 경주의 문화관광 콘텐츠를 알릴 좋은 기회”라며 “앞으로도 새로운 관광자원을 지속적으로 발굴해 더 많은 명소가 다음 100선에 선정되도록 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편, 문체부는 오는 24일까지 한국관광 100선을 주제로 ‘설프라이즈 인증샷 이벤트’와 ‘스페셜 여행 후기 이벤트’를 진행하고 있다.
