당진시(시장 오성환)는 당진천 유역(면적 26.799㎢)이 충청남도 최초로 환경부로부터 비점오염원 관리지역으로 선정됐다고 20일 밝혔다.
이번 성과는 민선8기 역점 공약사업인 석문호 수질 개선을 위한 노력의 일환으로, 충청남도와 충남연구원 등 관련 기관과의 협업을 통해 이루어졌다.
비점오염원 관리지역으로 지정된 당진천 유역은 읍내동, 수청동, 우두동, 원당동, 채운동, 대덕동, 순성면 등 26.799㎢에 걸쳐 있으며, 이 지역은 다수의 도시개발사업이 예정되어 있어 인구 집중과 오염원 증가가 예상된다.
따라서 석문호 수질에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 중요한 지역으로 평가받고 있다.
