브레이크뉴스 정명훈 기자= 지난해 4·10 총선에서 재산 내역 일부를 누락 신고한 혐의 등으로 기소된 이병진 더불어민주당 의원(평택시을)이 1심에서 당선 무효형을 선고받았다.
수원지법 평택지원 제1형사부(부장판사 신정일)는 2일 이병진 의원의 공직선거법 위반 혐의에 대해 벌금 700만원, 부동산실명거래법 위반 혐의에 벌금 500만원을 각각 선고했다.
재판부는 "공직자의 재산 신고는 선거의 공정성을 유지하기 위한 필수적인 절차이며 국회의원은 권한과 책임이 있는 직으로 정확한 정보를 통해 투표가 이뤄지는 만큼 투표에 영향을 미칠 수 있다"고 판시했다.
한편, 이병진 의원은 지난해 4·10 총선 당시 충남 아산시 영인면 신봉리 소재 토지에 5억원의 근저당권을 설정한 내역과 주식 보유 현황, 주식 관련 융자 등 일부를 누락한 채 선관위에 신고한 혐의 등으로 같은 해 10월 7일 불구속 기소됐다.
검찰은 공직선거법 위반 혐의에 대해 징역 10월을, 부동산실명거래법 위반 혐의에 대해선 징역 8월을 구형한 바 있다.
반면 이 의원은 이에 대해 "선거당시 재산을 숨길 필요도 없었고 명의신탁이나 차명이 아닌 지인을 도와주기 위해 한 것인만큼 즉각 항소할 것"이라고 밝혔다.
