도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 자진 출국하는 불법 이민자에 대해선 합법적 재 입국을 돕겠다고 밝혔다. 트럼프 대통령은 취임 후 불법 이민자에 대해 강경 추방 정책을 시행해 왔었다.
AP통신에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 15일(현지시간) 방영된 폭스뉴스 인터뷰에서 "현재 행정부가 살인범들을 미국 밖으로 내보내는 데 주력하고 있다"며 "다른 불법 입국자에 대해선 자진 추방 프로그램을 도입하겠다"고 밝혔다.
그의 이같은 발언은 노동력이 부족할 경우에 대한 일부 불법 이민자의 합법적 재입국 가능성을 시사한 것으로 해석되고 있다.
그러면서 "그들에게 돈을 좀 주고 비행기 표도 줄 것이며 만약 그들이 선한 사람이고 다시 (미국에) 오는 걸 원한다면 가능한 한 신속하게 다시 데려오기 위해 그들과 노력하겠다"고 말했다. 하지만 자진 추방 프로그램에 대한 구체적 내용은 설명하지 않았다.
또 "미국 호텔·농장들이 필요한 노동자를 구할 수 있게 돕고 싶다"며 "미국에 불법 체류하는 노동자들이 미국을 떠났다가 법적 허가를 받고 다시 미국에 오길 바란다"고 밝혔다.

현재 미 농업·서비스업 경우 불법 이민자가 제공하는 저임금 노동력에 크게 의존하고 있어 불법 이민자를 전부 추방 시 노동력 부족 및 물가 상승 우려가 나오고 있다.
