충청남도와 부여군이 협력해 추진 중인 ‘신금강대교 설치사업’이 본격화된다. 부여군은 지방도 611호선(장암~석성 구간) 도로 확장사업과 연계하여 지난 29일 주민설명회를 열고 사업 추진 방향과 향후 일정 등을 공유했다.
이번 설명회는 장암면 주민자치센터와 석성면 행정복지센터에서 각각 열렸으며, 도의원과 군의원, 마을 대표 및 주민, 충남도 건설본부와 부여군청 관계자 등 200여 명이 참석해 높은 관심을 반영했다.
설명회에서는 사업의 개요와 향후 일정이 소개됐으며, 주민들의 의견을 청취하는 시간도 마련되었다. 일부 참석자는 2022년 도로건설관리계획 확정 이후 사업 추진이 지연된 데 대한 아쉬움을 표했으나, 올해 안에 설계를 마무리하고 2026년 상반기 착공 목표를 밝히자 기대감을 드러냈다.
충청남도는 “당초 2026년 9월까지 계획했던 기본 및 실시설계를 금년 중 완료하고, 빠르면 내년 상반기 중 공사를 시작할 수 있도록 준비하겠다”고 밝혔다.
당초 부여군은 2층 구조의 강합성 트러스교를 제안해 관광자원화에 초점을 뒀으나, 공사비가 500억 원을 넘겨 지방재정투자심사 대상에 해당되며 도와의 조율이 필요했다. 최종적으로는 차량용 2차로와 자전거·보행자 겸용 도로를 포함하는 형식으로 결정됐다.
이에 대해 주민들은 “단순한 교량이 아니라 주변 환경과 조화를 이루는 디자인이 필요하다”며 경관 요소 반영을 요청했고, 충남도 측은 “사업비 범위 내에서 조형물 설치 등 다양한 방안을 검토하겠다”고 응답했다.

또한, 이 사업은 국토교통부의 내륙첨단산업 발전계획과 연계되어 추진되고 있어 백마강 국가정원 조성, 금강누정 선유길 관광개발, 초촌면 송국리 세계유산 등재 사업 등 다양한 문화관광 프로젝트와의 시너지 효과도 기대된다.
농업 생산지 간 물류 효율 또한 크게 개선될 것으로 보인다. 교량 건설로 인해 석성면과 장암면을 중심으로 한 농산물 유통 여건이 개선되면서, 총 7,564세대의 농가 소득 향상에도 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 분석된다.
