(사)하늘문화세계평화광복 글로벌08지부에 따르면, 이번 강연은 HWPL 글로벌08지부에서 평화교육 업무를 담당하는 청년들도 참석해 눈길을 끌었다. 청년층 통일 인식이 부정적으로 기울어지고 있는 상황에서 청년들의 참석은 연사자인 윤 교수에게도 강연 진행에 크나큰 동기 부여가 됐다고 전했다.
윤형덕 교수는 통일이 불필요하다는 인식이 만연해진 이유 중 하나로 ‘역사 교육의 부재’를 꼬집었다. 그는 “북한과 연해주 지방이 원래 우리나라 영토였다”며 “전쟁으로 인해 잃어버린 지 너무 오래된 까닭에 애초에 우리 것이라는 인식 자체가 사라졌다”고 말했다. 이어 “분단 국가에서 태어난 청년들이기에 이에 대한 인식이 부족할 수밖에 없다”며 “결여된 인식을 교육하는 것은 기성세대들의 몫”이라며 안타까움을 표했다. 윤 교수는 “전쟁으로 이루는 통일이 아닌 평화 통일을 이루어 후손에게 전해줘야 한다”고 강조했다.
