최민호 세종시장은 1일 "해양수산부 이전과 관련해 전재수 해양수산부 장관후보자에게 공개 토론을 제안했다.
최민호 시장은 이날 시청 정음실에서 기자회견을 열고 "해수부 이전이 조속히 추진됨에 따라 충청권은 물론, 국민적 우려가 높다"며 이같이 말했다.
최 시장은 "행정수도 완성이라는 국가적 과업을 책임지는 세종시장으로서는 결코 간과할 수 없는 사안"이라며 "해수부 이전에 대한 심도 있는 논의를 펼칠 수 있는 기회를 마련해 줄 것을 요청드린다"고 강조했다.
이어 "해양수산부 이전은 단순히 정부 부처의 위치를 옮기는 수준의 문제가 아니다"라며"정부 기관의 서울, 세종, 부산 분산으로 유기적인 국정운영 효율성에 심각한 문제가 우려되는 것"이라고 강조했다.

앞서 이재명 대통령은 대선 후보 시절 해양수산부 부산 이전을 약속했고, 취임 후인 지난 5일 국무회의에서 해양수산부의 조속한 부산 이전을 지시한 바 있다 .전재수 해양수산부 장관 후보자도 지난 25일 연내 부산 이전 추진을 밝혔다.
최 시장은 "해양수산부의 부산 이전은 노무현, 박근혜 전 대통령 때에도 검토된 바 있지만, 세종시에 그대로 위치하게 된 것은 국가적 차원에서 국토 균형발전과 국정 운영의 효율성 등을 고려해 내린 합리적인 선택이었다"며 조속한 이전에 대해 우려를 나타냈다.
다만 "북극항로 개발 등 해양강국 전략에 공감한다"면서도 "해수부가 세종에 있어야 국정 효율성이 극대화 된다"고 지적했다.
