도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 6일(현지시간) "미국이 일방적으로 정한 국가별 관세율을 적시한 관세 서한' 발송 대상이 12개국 또는 15개국이 될 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
미 'AP 통신'에 따르면 트럼프 대통령은 이날 뉴저지주에서 워싱턴DC 백악관으로 돌아오기 위해 미 대통령 전용기 에어포스원 탑승 전 취재진과 만나 "월요일(7일) 서한을 발송 예정이며 12개국이 될 수 있고 아마 15개국이 될 수 있다"고 밝혔다.
트럼프 대통령이 언급한 15개국은 그간 언급해왔던 서한 발송 대상국 12개국 보다 증가한 수치다.
그러면서 "아마 15개국 정도 될 수 있고 월요일 발송될 것"이라며 "일부는 화요일(8일)·수요일(9일) 발송될 것"이라고 했다.
또 "우리는 협상해왔다"며 "따라서 우리는 서한(발송)·몇몇 협상 조합을 갖고 있다"고 했다.
더불어 '7월 9일, 8월 1일이 되면 관세율이 바뀔 수 있느냐'는 질의엔 "나는 우리가 대부분 국가(와의 협상)를 7월 9일까지 마무리할 것이라 생각한다"며 "서한 아니면 협상"이라고 답했다.
이와 관련해 옆에 있던 하워드 러트닉 상무장관은 "관세는 8월 1일부터 발효될 것"이라며 "대통령은 지금 당장 관세율과 협상을 설정하고 있다"고 부연 설명했다.
