수묵의 여백과 존재의 사유 속에서 자연과 생명의 감응을 그려온 강금복 화백의 제68회 개인 초대전 ‘꿈· 희망· 상생 전’이 경기도 용인시 기흥구에 위치한 근현대사미술관 ‘담다’에서 2025년 7월 30일부터 8월 15일까지 열린다. 500호(6m×1m) 대작에서부터 300호(2mx1m), 120호에 이르는 작가의 최근 대작을 살펴볼 수 있는 전시다.
화가는 긴 세월 말보다 더 깊은 언어로 화폭에 침묵을 새겨왔다. 작가의 작품은 말 없는 사유의 존재들이 조용히 피어오르는 공간이며 먹빛의 번짐과 여백은 신성한 감성의 결로 스며든다. 그 결은 수십 년간 자연과 인간을 응시한 침묵의 궤적이다. 시간과 기억으로 녹아든 풍상의 흔적 속에서도 작가는 흐트러지지 않는 생명의 숨결을 그려내고 있다.

작품 속 소나무는 고독한 붓질마다 오랜 침묵을 껴안은 채 서 있는 존재의 형상이다. 거친 바람을 온몸으로 견디며 그 침묵은 고요하면서도 묵직하다. 그림 속 소나무는 마치 삶의 윤리적 묵상을 품은 듯 세속의 자와 저울로는 헤아릴 수 없는 깊고 은밀한 사유를 뿌리내리고 있다.
매화, 그것은 더욱더 조용한 꽃이다. 어떤 매화도 봄을 재촉하지 않는다. 푸르게 서리친 겨울 속 스스로 피어오르기를 기다리는 인내의 영혼이다. 슬픔을 푸르게 눕힌 여백 위에 피어난 꽃잎은 세상에 대한 한 점의 응답이며 증언이다. 절제된 응시 속에 피어난 매화는 감각적 유희가 아닌 세월의 언저리에 놓여 잊힌 희망의 언어를 다시 불러오는 고요한 기도와 같다. 마치 응답이 없는 시대를 향한 한 점의 속삭임처럼 다가온다.

전시 제목인 『꿈· 희망· 상생』은 화가의 고독한 예술 여정이 담긴 표상이며 우리가 다시 되새겨야 할 정신의 기둥들이다. 이 ‘꿈’은 이루기 위한 목표라기보다 견뎌내기 위한 인내의 속살이다. ‘희망’은 미래의 결과가 아니라 지금 여기 과정을 비추는 은은한 빛이다. 그리고 ‘상생’이란 나와 너, 자연과 인간, 예술과 삶이 서로를 거스르지 않고 이어지는 감응의 윤리다.
화가의 소나무는 오늘의 우리에게 묻는다. “당신은 어떻게 살아가고 있는가?” 굳이 말하지 않아도 그림 속 존재들은 묵묵히 그러나 분명하게 응시하고 있다. 작가의 매화는 낮은 바람을 머금은 채 겨우내 숨죽여 피워낸 향기로 말보다 더 깊은 속삭임을 전한다. 어떤 겨울도 영원하지 않듯 고통도 끝없이 머물지 않는다. 마침내 한 잎 피어나 사라지는 것들 속에서 우리는 삶의 향기를 발견하게 된다. 그것이 바로 매화가 피어오르기까지 품어온 오랜 기억의 ‘꿈’이다.
