[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시가 ‘도서관은 조용히 책만 읽는 곳’이라는 고정관념을 허물었다. 시는13일, 금정구 금정도서관에 어린이를 위한 창의적 복합문화공간 ‘금정도서관 들락날락’을 공식 개관했다.
이번 개관은 ‘15분 도시’를 구현하기 위한 핵심 사업 중 하나로, 일상 속에서 아이들이 책과 놀이, 체험을 자연스럽게 접할 수 있는 새로운 공공 공간의 탄생을 의미한다.
이날 오후 3시 금정도서관 1층에서 열린 개관식에는, 박형준 부산시장과 윤일현 금정구청장을 비롯해 시·구의원, 학부모, 어린이집 관계자, 지역 어린이 등 100여 명이 참석해 공간의 시작을 함께 축하했다.
‘들락날락’은 부산시가 2024년 추진한 어린이복합문화공간 조성 공모사업에 선정되어 총 20억 원의 예산이 투입된 프로젝트다. 사업 대상지는 금정구의 대표 공공도서관인 금정도서관으로, 활용도가 낮았던 로비와 야외 공간 등 1,582㎡ 면적을 과감히 리모델링해 아동 친화적 학습·문화 공간으로 변모시켰다.
무엇보다 이번 조성의 핵심은 ‘상상력과 경험이 공존하는 공간’을 만든 것이다. 내부에는 어린이자료실에 디지털 체험공간 ‘상상놀이터’가 새롭게 들어섰다. 4면의 실감형 콘텐츠를 구현하는 몰입형 체험관, 직접 색칠한 그림이 스크린 속에서 살아 움직이는 ‘컬러링 인터랙티브’, 그리고 아이들의 흥미를 끌 수 있도록 설계된 멀티미디어 사이니지가 설치되어, 도서관을 또 하나의 감각 놀이터로 만들어낸다.

야외 뒷마당도 단순한 녹지공간이 아닌 ‘달빛그린야외도서관’으로 재구성되었다. 책과 자연이 공존하는 이 공간에서는 향후 다양한 가족 단위 문화 행사가 예정돼 있어, 도서관을 찾는 이유가 하나 더 늘어날 전망이다.
또한, 전용 학습 공간인 ‘창의공작소’에서는 수준 높은 교육 콘텐츠가 정기적으로 제공될 예정이며, 단순한 독서 교육을 넘어 창의력과 융합 사고를 기를 수 있는 체험 프로그램이 중심이 된다.
운영시간은 화~금요일은 오전 9시부터 밤 8시까지, 토~일요일은 오전 9시부터 오후 5시까지로, 월요일과 공휴일은 휴관이다. 주중에는 방과 후 아이들의 창의 활동 공간으로, 주말에는 온 가족이 함께하는 문화놀이터로 기능할 것으로 기대된다.
부산시는 이번 공간 조성이 지역 공공도서관의 기능을 확장하는 계기가 될 것으로 내다보고 있다. 단순히 책을 빌리고 읽는 기능을 넘어서, 학교 밖 공교육의 보완 플랫폼으로서 도서관이 진화하고 있다는 점에 주목하고 있다.
‘들락날락’은 부산시가 도심 내 유휴 공간을 활용해 운영 중인 대표 어린이복합문화 브랜드다. 아날로그 책 읽기와 디지털 체험을 유기적으로 결합한 공간으로, 현재 부산 전역에 87곳이 운영 중이며, 20곳이 추가 조성 중이다. ‘영어랑 놀자’, ‘창의배움터’, ‘맘껏 놀자’ 등 부산시가 직접 기획한 수준 높은 교육 프로그램은 매회 조기 마감될 정도로 높은 인기를 끌고 있다.

박형준 부산시장은 “들락날락은 아이들이 일상 속에서 자유롭게 상상력을 펼칠 수 있는 공간이자, 도시 유휴공간을 창의적으로 활용한 정책 혁신의 사례”라며, “이번 금정도서관 내 들락날락 개관은 부산의 지역 도서관이 단순한 지식 보관소를 넘어 지역 공동체의 문화 거점으로 거듭나는 계기가 될 것”이라고 말했다. 이어 “금정도서관이 앞으로도 지역 아이들과 가족 모두가 즐겨 찾는 공간으로 자리 잡길 기대한다”고 밝혔다.

Busan City is redefining what a library can be. On August 13, the city officially opened “Deullak Nallak”, a creative and child-friendly cultural space located within Geumjeong Library in Geumjeong-gu. The new facility is a key project in Busan’s “15-Minute City” initiative, aiming to create accessible public spaces where children can engage with books, technology, and hands-on learning within their own neighborhoods.
The opening ceremony took place at 3 p.m. on the first floor of Geumjeong Library, attended by Busan Mayor Park Heong-joon, Geumjeong-gu Mayor Yoon Il-hyun, local council members, educators, parents, and children--gathering around 100 participants to celebrate the launch.
“Deullak Nallak” was one of the selected projects in Busan’s 2024 Child-Friendly Cultural Space Grant Program, receiving a total investment of KRW 2 billion (approx. $1.5 million). The project reimagined 1,582 square meters of previously underutilized areas, including the lobby and outdoor sections of the library, turning them into dynamic and engaging zones for reading, play, education, and digital exploration.
At the heart of this transformation is the idea of combining imagination with interaction. Inside the children’s section, a digital content zone named “Imagination Playground” has been installed. This area features immersive four-wall digital experiences, interactive coloring technology where kids can see their hand-colored characters come to life on screen, and multimedia signage that makes exploration fun and intuitive.
The library’s backyard has also been reinvented as the “Moonlight Green Outdoor Library”, where families can enjoy reading in nature. Various seasonal programs and community activities are planned for this space, making it a relaxing yet stimulating environment for all ages.
Additionally, a dedicated learning space called the “Creative Lab” will offer high-quality educational programs designed to boost children’s creativity and critical thinking through hands-on projects and collaborative learning.
The facility is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed on Mondays and national holidays. The city anticipates that the space will serve as an after-school haven for local students during the week and a family-friendly cultural hub on weekends.
City officials expect this initiative to expand the traditional role of public libraries, transforming them from quiet reading spaces into vibrant centers for family engagement and community-based learning. As a supplement to formal education, especially outside the classroom, the space is expected to play a meaningful role in nurturing creative literacy.
“Deullak Nallak” is a flagship child-centered cultural brand developed by Busan, which repurposes underused urban spaces into hybrid analog-digital learning environments. Currently, 87 locations are operating across the city, with 20 more under development. Popular programs like “Play with English,” “Creative Learning Center,” and “Let’s Play Freely” are designed and provided directly by the city, and often fill up as soon as registration opens. Particularly, native-speaker-led English sessions have been consistently popular among local families.
At the ceremony, Mayor Park stated, “‘Deullak Nallak’ is more than just a cultural space--it’s a bold example of urban innovation using idle public areas, and a core facility in realizing our 15-Minute City vision. The transformation of Geumjeong Library will stand as a best practice, not just in Korea, but internationally.” He added, “I hope this space becomes a creative home for local children and a shared cultural playground for families in the community.”
