[브레이크뉴스 =배종태 기자] 입소 1주일 만에 병원을 무단이탈한 육군훈련병이 부산 광안리해수욕장에서 경찰에 붙잡혔다. 그는 “바다가 보고 싶었다”는 이유로 수백 킬로미터를 달려왔다.
부산 수영경찰서는 군무이탈 혐의로 충남 논산 육군훈련소 소속 훈련병 A씨(20대)를 긴급체포해 육군 수사단에 신병을 인계했다고 14일 밝혔다.
A씨는 지난 7일 훈련소에 입소해 기본군사훈련을 받던 중 13일 몸이 좋지 않다며 국군대전병원에 입원했다. 그러나 당일 밤 병원을 빠져나와 탈영했고, 전남경찰청을 통해 수영경찰서에 공조 요청이 접수된 시각은 오후 11시 53분이었다.
경찰은 주변 수색 끝에 14일 새벽 1시 14분께 광안리해수욕장 백사장에서 A씨를 발견했다. 그는 여자친구와 함께 모래사장에 앉아 있었으며, 체포 과정에서 별다른 저항은 없었다. 조사에서 A씨는 “타지에서 자라 바다를 본 적이 없어서 보고 싶었다”고 진술했다.
경찰은 A씨의 탈영 기간 동안 추가 범행은 없었던 것으로 확인했으며, 군 당국은 관련 규정에 따라 조사를 이어갈 예정이다.

Just a week after enlisting, an Army recruit who left a military hospital without permission was caught by police at Gwangalli Beach in Busan. His reason: he wanted to see the ocean.
Busan’s Suyeong Police Station announced on August 14 that it had arrested a male recruit in his 20s on charges of desertion and handed him over to the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command.
The recruit, identified only as A, entered the Army’s basic training center in Nonsan, South Chungcheong Province, on August 7. On August 13, he was admitted to the Armed Forces Daejeon Hospital, claiming to feel unwell. Later that night, however, he slipped out of the hospital without permission.
At 11:53 p.m. that day, the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency requested cooperation from Suyeong Police to locate the suspect. Officers searching the area spotted A at around 1:14 a.m. on August 14, sitting on the sand at Gwangalli Beach with his girlfriend.
He was arrested without resistance. During questioning, A reportedly told police, “I grew up inland and had never seen the ocean. I wanted to see it.” Authorities confirmed that he did not commit any other offenses during his absence. The military is continuing its investigation in accordance with relevant regulations.
