김대중 전 대통령 서거 16주기를 맞아 일본 도쿄에서 추모 강연회가 18일 저녁 7시 열렸다. 도쿄 히가시신주쿠(KDX東新宿) 빌딩에 소재한 바투르 도쿄(BATUR Tokyo)에서 열린 행사는 김대중재단 일본위원회와 일본 도쿄 민주 연합이 공동 주관하였다.
일본에서 활동하는 주요 민주인사들과 유학생에 이르기까지 다양한 계층이 참가한 추모 강연회의 열기는 뜨거웠다. 특히 지난해 위법적 계엄 사태로 나라의 위기를 맞았을 때 내란 주범 탄핵과 청산을 위한 외침으로 도쿄 중심가에 연일 모였던 기억을 매만지며 새로운 이재명 국민 주권 정부 탄생에 안도하는 분위기였다.
대한민국 민주화 역사의 대표적 지도자인 김대중 전 대통령의 민주화와 평화 통일을 추구한 생전의 업적을 기리며 추모한 강연회는 줌(Zoom) 화상회의 플랫폼을 통하여 전 세계에 중계되었다.
이에 앞서 김상열 추도식 준비 위원장의 추도사가 낭독되었다. 전 민주평통 일본 동부협의회 회장을 역임한 김 준비 위원장은 추도사에서 김 전 대통령에 대한 비화를 소개하여 주목을 받았다.
김 준비 위원장은 김대중 전 대통령이 1973년 일본에서 납치당한 사태가 있기 전 거주하였던 신주쿠 토즈카 맨션이 바로 강연회장 인근에 있는 사실을 언급하였다. 이어 김 전 대통령에 대하여 가장 많은 취재와 인터뷰를 가졌던 다치카와 마사끼 기자로부터 제공받은 인터뷰 자료를 공개하였다.

이어 정세현 전 통일부 장관의 ‘이재명 국민 주권 정부 한반도 평화 정책 전망과 재외 동포 사회의 역할’이라는 주제의 강연이 있었다. 남북 협상에 가장 오랜 실무 관료로 가장 많은 장관 회담을 지냈던 경험을 차근차근 되짚으며 김 전 대통령의 햇볕정책과 통일 철학의 업적을 상세하게 설명하였다. 이어 교착상태에 처한 남북문제와 동북아 평화 문제가 깊숙하게 연관된 현실을 되짚으면서 일본의 정치 경제 사회 각 분야에 깊숙하게 소통하고 있는 재일 교포의 막중한 역할의 소중함을 강조하였다.
화상을 통하여 강연회를 지켜보면서 여기저기 낯익은 지인들에게 메신저로 소감을 물었다. 여러 이야기를 주고받던 중 오는 23일과 24일 이재명 대통령님이 일본을 방문해 이시바 시게루 일본 총리와 정상회담을 진행하는 첫 일본 방문 일정에서 갖는 동포간담회에 민주 진영 단체장들이 초청받지 못한 아쉬움이 쏟아졌다.
