【브레이크뉴스 대구】진예솔 기자=대구시교육청이 장애학생들의 체육 활동 기회를 늘리고 재능을 발굴하기 위한 대규모 체육대회를 개최한다고 22일 밝혔다.
대구시교육청은 오는 25일까지 4일간 대구장애인국민체육센터 등 7개 경기장에서 '제8회 대구광역시교육감배 장애학생 체육대회'를 연다.
이번 대회에는 36개 학교에서 178명의 학생이 참가해 11개 종목에서 실력을 겨룬다.
선발종목에는 육상, 디스크골프, 배드민턴, 역도, 조정, 슐런, 수영,보치아, E스포츠, 볼링이 포함됐다. 이를 통해 2026년 전국장애학생체육대회에 출전할 선수를 뽑는다. 육성종목으로는 농구가 운영된다.
경기는 종목별 장애학생의 특성을 고려해 전문 경기장에서 진행된다. 대구장애인국민체육센터를 비롯해 대구스타디움 훈련장 및 보조경기장, 두류수영장, 상록뇌성마비복지관, 현대볼링장, 욜로PC방, 대구이룸고등학교 등 7개 경기장이 활용된다.
이번 대회는 단순한 경기 참여를 넘어 장애학생의 신체활동 기회를 늘리고 사회성 발달, 자존감 향상을 돕는 교육적 효과가 기대된다. 통합교육 문화 조성에도 기여할 것으로 보인다.
대회 참가 학생을 지도하는 한 교사는 "학생들이 잠재된 능력을 발견하고 꾸준한 노력과 훈련으로 자신감을 얻으며 당당하게 성장하는 모습을 보니 자랑스럽다"고 말했다.
강은희 교육감은 "학생들의 땀과 열정에 박수를 보낸다"며 "학생들이 그동안 갈고닦은 기량을 마음껏 펼치며 안전하고 뜻깊은 대회가 되길 바란다"고 덧붙였다.
