일산동부경찰서는 30일 배달 오토바이와 개인형 이동장치(PM) 운행이 많은 일산동구 웨스턴돔 인근에서 PM·이륜차의 교통법규 위반행위 예방과 안전수칙 준수를 위한 교통안전 활동을 전개했다.

이날 단속 및 캠페인은 10월 15일부터 31일까지 시행 중인 교통안전 특별경보에 따라 한국교통안전공단과 일산동구청이 합동으로 진행했다.
일산동부 관내 두바퀴차 사고는 감소 추세를 보이고 있으나, 최근 전국적으로 PM 관련 사고가 잇따르며 사회적 비난 여론이 확산되고 있다.
이에 따라 경찰은 사고 발생 시 중대한 피해로 이어질 수 있는 두바퀴차의 안전한 교통문화 정착을 위해 집중 단속에 나섰다.
이번 단속 결과 PM 인도주행 및 안전모 미착용 5건, 이륜차 불법부착물 3건, 번호판 등 자동차관리법 안전기준 위반 20건 등 총 28건을 적발했다.
강찬구 일산동부경찰서장은 “최근 PM 사망사고와 관련해 미성년자에게 실형이 선고될 정도로 PM·이륜차 위반행위는 대형사고와 돌이킬 수 없는 결과를 초래할 수 있다”며 “운전자의 자발적인 법규 준수가 절실하다”고 강조했다.
이어 “두바퀴차 사고 근절을 위한 지속적인 단속과 홍보로 안전한 교통문화를 조성하겠다”고 말했다.
