파주시가 교하도서관 내 유휴공간을 활용한 '책문화 특화 늘봄거점센터'를 조성하고 11월 중순부터 본격 운영에 들어간다.
시는 5일 교하도서관 내 기존 정보화 교육실을 새롭게 단장해 지난 10월 '책문화 특화 늘봄거점센터' 조성을 완료했다고 밝혔다.

이번 사업은 파주시 교육발전특구 세부사업의 일환으로, 지역 내 공공 기반 시설을 활용해 돌봄 초과 수요를 해소하고 아동 돌봄 공백을 최소화하기 위해 추진됐다.
특히 공공도서관의 내부 공간을 효율적으로 재구성해 아이들이 안전하게 머무를 수 있는 지역사회 중심의 돌봄 기반 시설을 확충했다는 점에서 의미가 크다는 평가다.
사업은 공적 돌봄의 핵심 주체인 파주시와 파주교육지원청의 긴밀한 협력체계로 추진됐다.
시설 조성은 파주시가, 운영은 파주교육지원청이 각각 담당하는 역할 분담을 통해 효율성을 높였다.
파주교육지원청은 위탁 운영 기관을 선정해 11월부터 독서 기반 창의 활동 등 다양한 돌봄 프로그램을 운영할 예정이다.

최희진 평생교육과장은 "책문화 특화 늘봄거점센터는 단순한 돌봄 공간을 넘어 배움과 성장이 함께 이루어지는 복합문화공간으로 자리매김할 것"이라고 말했다.
이어 "아이들의 전인적 성장과 학부모의 돌봄 부담 완화를 통해 '삶이 행복한 가족도시 파주' 실현에 기여할 것으로 기대한다"고 덧붙였다.
한편 파주시는 이번 센터를 시작으로 지역 내 공공시설을 활용한 돌봄 인프라 확충을 지속적으로 추진할 계획이다.
