【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 진천군은 제2의 농다리로 기대를 모으고 있는 진천 숯산업클러스터 특구 사업이 순항 중이라고 17일 밝혔다.
사업이 펼쳐지는 진천군 백곡면은 전국 최대 참숯 생산지로 전국 숯생산량(흑탄)의 80%를 차지하고 있다.
군은 백곡의 참숯과 백곡호의 아름다운 수자원을 활용해 특색있는 관광복합단지를 조성하고자 2018년 산림청 공모사업에 신청, 선정된 바 있다.
이후 2020년 숯산업클러스터 지역특화발전특구로 지정됐고, 1단계 사업으로 약 61억 억원의 예산을 투입해 인허가 절차, 부지조성, 기반 시설 조성 등을 완료했다.
올해는 2단계 사업인 참숯힐빙센터가 준공한다.
참숯힐빙센터는 친환경 숯생산과 쾌적한 온열 찜질이 동시에 가능하도록 전통 숯가마를 현대식 시설로 재탄생시킨 시설이다.
건물 2동, 지상 1층, 전체면적 1,260㎡ 규모로 지어졌으며 숯가마 6기, 연결 복도, 휴게시설(탈의실, 샤워실, 화장실, 휴게음식점 등)으로 구성돼 있다.
준공 이후 사업자를 선정해 2026년 상반기 정식 운영을 시작한다.
기존 숯생산 농가의 노후 된 숯가마를 대신해 숯을 대량 생산할 수 있으며 숯을 굽고 난 후 뜨거워진 숯가마의 열기를 활용해 온열 찜질을 체험하고, 휴식을 취할 수 있다.
3단계 사업인 참숯힐빙파크는 건축 설계 공모 심사를 완료했다.
해당 설계공모에는 전국에서 34개 업체가 응모했으며, 10개 작품이 제출됐다.
주변 자연과 조화를 이루는 목구조와 입면계획, 공간 구성의 활용성을 극대화한 작품이 최종 당선됐다.
건물 1동, 지상 2층, 전체면적 942㎡ 규모이며 1층에는 숯결숲(실내정원), 카페, 숯결숲회랑, 체험데크, 온담마당 등이, 2층에는 식당, 휴게 테라스 등이 들어선다.
설계비 포함 총 46억원(도비 23억원, 군비 23억원)의 예산이 투입되며 이번 건축 설계 공모 당선 업체와 수의계약을 체결해 올해 12월 말까지 설계 용역을 진행한다.
이후 2026년 상반기 착공, 연말 준공을 목표로 사업을 본격화한다.
최두식 군 산림녹지과장은 “백곡면 사송리의 숯산업클러스터가 군의 새로운 특화관광 거점시설로 탄생할 수 있도록 사업 진행에 최선을 다하고 있다”며 “숯을 생산하는 1차 산업에서 단절되지 않고 관광 서비스 산업 다각화, 지역 주민 일자리 창출, 소득증대 등으로 이어질 것으로 기대한다”고 말했다.
