경기 파주시는 지난 21일부터 23일까지 폴란드 비아위스토크시 대표단의 방문을 통해 양 도시 간 우호 협력 관계를 한층 강화했다고 24일 밝혔다.
이번 방문은 지난 6월 양 도시가 '우호도시 제휴 의향서'를 체결한 이후 처음 이뤄진 공식 교류로, 향후 실질적인 협력 확대를 모색하는 중요한 계기가 됐다.

라파우 루드니츠키 비아위스토크 부시장을 단장으로 한 3명의 대표단은 파주시를 찾아 한반도의 역사와 문화를 직접 체험하는 시간을 가졌다.
대표단은 첫날 비무장지대(DMZ) 권역을 방문해 한반도 분단의 역사와 평화의 현장을 살펴봤다.
오전에는 제3땅굴과 도라전망대를 둘러보며 접경지역의 특수성을 이해했고, 오후에는 '제29회 파주장단콩축제' 개막식에 참석해 파주의 대표 문화행사를 경험했다.
이어 국립민속박물관 파주관을 견학하며 한국 전통문화에 대한 이해를 넓혔다.
윤주현 자치협력과장은 "파주시와 비아위스토크시는 올해 3월 실무협의를 시작으로 6월 우호 협력을 공식화하며 교류의 기반을 꾸준히 다져 왔다"며 "비아위스토크시 대표단이 파주의 역사와 문화, 그리고 평화의 가치를 체감하는 기회가 되었기를 바란다"고 말했다.
이어 "앞으로도 양 도시가 우정을 이어가며 평화롭고 활기찬 미래를 함께 만들어가길 기대한다"고 덧붙였다.

한편, 비아위스토크시는 폴란드 북동부의 중심도시로 벨라루스와 인접한 접경도시다.
