25일, 대구시에 따르면 이번 전시는 청년 디자이너와 지역 대학생들이 참여해 골목 생태계를 활성화하고 청년 문화의 창작 기반을 확장하기 위한 프로젝트로, 지난해 행정안전부 ‘지역특성 살리기 공모’에 선정된 사업이다.
전시는 오랜 기간 골목 문화의 중심지였던 동성로의 변화를 새로운 시각으로 재해석하는 자리로, 도시의 일상 속 시각 언어를 실험적인 방식으로 표현한 작품들이 골목 곳곳을 채운다. 경북대·계명대·영남대를 포함한 지역 대학 디자인 전공 학생들과 청년 디자이너 등 150여 명이 참여해 동성로 골목과 청년문화를 주제로 다양한 그래픽 작품을 선보인다.
올해의 주제인 ‘Off the Wall(틀에서 벗어난)’은 빈 점포 쇼윈도와 외벽 등 도시 공간 속 남겨진 흔적을 그래픽 언어로 치환해 자유롭고 파격적인 표현으로 담아낸 것이 특징이다. 전시 기간 동안 야시골목~늑대골목 구간은 청년 디자이너들의 작품이 설치되며, 골목 일대는 하나의 대규모 야외 갤러리로 변모하게 된다.
이번 프로젝트는 ‘동성로 르네상스 프로젝트’의 일환으로 추진되며, 그래픽을 기반으로 골목 공간을 재브랜딩하고 시각 매체와 청년문화를 결합해 도심 활성화를 이끌겠다는 계획을 담고 있다. 대구시는 지역 대학 및 창작 인재들과의 협업을 지속하며 디자인·문화 프로그램을 확장해 나갈 예정이다.
홍성주 대구광역시 경제부시장은 “이번 전시가 동성로 골목을 청년들의 창의성과 감성이 살아 숨 쉬는 문화 실험의 무대로 탈바꿈시키는 계기가 되길 바란다”며 “청년 창작자들과 함께 도심 속 문화 거점을 구축할 수 있도록 지속적인 지원을 이어가겠다”고 말했다.

Daegu Metropolitan City will host the “Dongseong-ro Graphics 2025: Off the Wall” street exhibition from November 24 to December 19, spanning the area from Yasi Alley to Wolf Alley.
This exhibition, a project featuring young designers and local university students, aims to revitalize the alley ecosystem and expand the creative foundation for youth culture. Last year, it was selected for the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s “Regional Characteristics Revitalization Contest.”
The exhibition offers a fresh perspective on the transformation of Dongseong-ro, a longtime hub of alley culture. The alleys are filled with works that experimentally express the visual language of everyday life in the city. Approximately 150 design students from local universities, including Kyungpook National University, Keimyung University, and Yeungnam University, as well as young designers, will present a variety of graphic works themed on the alleys of Dongseong-ro and youth culture.
This year's theme, "Off the Wall," features a free and unconventional graphic approach that captures the remaining traces of urban spaces, such as empty storefronts and exterior walls. During the exhibition, the Yasi Alley and Wolf Alley sections will be transformed into a large-scale outdoor gallery featuring works by young designers.
This project, part of the "Dongseong-ro Renaissance Project," aims to rebrand the alley through graphic design and revitalize the city center by combining visual media with youth culture. The city of Daegu plans to continue collaborating with local universities and creative talent to expand its design and cultural programs.
Hong Seong-ju, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs of Daegu Metropolitan City, stated, "I hope this exhibition will serve as an opportunity to transform the Dongseong-ro alley into a stage for cultural experimentation, where the creativity and sensibilities of young people come alive. We will continue to support young creators in establishing a cultural hub in the city center."
