내년 6·3 지방선거가 반 년 앞으로 다가선 가운데 지지율 제고를 위한 각 정당들의 셈법과 고심이 날로 깊어지고 있다. 특별히 소수 야당의 한계를 절감하고 있는 국민의힘 입장에서는 존폐가 걸린 문제다. 지방선거마저 패할 경우 무기력증에 빠져들 위험성이 높기 때문이다.
김문수 전 대선후보는 이를 우려한 듯 "선거에서 이기기 위한 '선거운동의 5대 기본방향'으로 "높이! 깊이! 넓게! 뜨겁게! 깨끗하게!"를 제시했다. 아울러 "이를 흔들림 없이 잡고 나가야 한다"며 "정세가 복잡하고, 판단이 흔들릴수록 더 잊지 않고 지켜나가야 할 기본방향이다"고 27일 자신의 페이스북을 통해 이같이 피력했다.
첫째 "'남북통일'과 '대한민국의 세계일류국가 도약', '국민행복'이라는 대의명분을 뚜렷하게 제시해야 한다"며 "최근 국민의힘은 경제와 국방안보라는 전통 우위분야에서 조차 뚜렷한 성과를 내지 못하고 있다"고 아쉬워했다. 또한 "문화예술과 보건복지, 민생문제에서도 분발하지 않으면 민주당을 이길 수 없다"며 "전문가들의 조직적 도움을 받으면서 공부하고, 정리해서 국민들에게 공약으로 발표해야 한다"고 주문했다.
둘째 "삶의 구석구석 깊이 들어가서 국민과 함께 동고동락해야 한다"며 "전국 각계각층의 구체적 삶의 현장으로 깊이 들어가야 한다"고 주장했다. 예컨대 "골목까지, 옥탑방까지, 폐광 막장까지, 시골 폐가까지, 절망의 현장까지 찾아가서, 듣고, 공감하고, 대책을 세우고, 다시 찾아가서 해결해야 한다"고 역설했다.
셋째 "그물을 넓게 쳐야 한다"며 “'미운 이에게 떡 하나 더 준다'는 속담을 새겨봐야 한다"고 조언했다. 특히 "민주당과 경쟁하면서 내부분열과 뺄셈정치를 계속해서는 선거에서 이길 수 없다"며 "적대적 모순은 투쟁과 제명으로 해결할 수 있지만, 우리끼리 갈등은 대화와 인내와 포용으로 해결해야 한다"고 설파했다. 이어 "적대적 모순 보다 손톱 밑의 가시가 더 아플 수 있지만, 그렇다고 뺄셈정치를 계속하다 보면, 6개월 밖에 남지 않은 지방선거까지 수술후유증을 극복할 수 없게 된다"고 우려했다.
넷째 "정치는 약자에 대한 뜨거운 사랑과 봉사가 기본이다"며 "차가운 이기심은 정치를 죽이는 독약이다"고 경계했다. 이어 "약삭빠른 출세수단이 정치가 아니다"며 "우직하고 뜨거운 바보가 국회의원이 되고 시도지사가 되기를 바라는 국민의 희망을 배반해서는 성공할 수 없다"고 덧붙였다.
