【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=음성군은 음성역 이용객과 인근 주민들의 오랜 염원이었던 주차 불편 문제를 해소하기 위해 ‘음성역 교통광장 임시주차장 조성사업’을 본격 추진한다고 15일 밝혔다.
그동안 음성역 주변은 협소한 주차 공간으로 인해 이용객의 불편이 지속돼 왔으며, 불법 주정차 문제 등으로 안전사고 우려가 제기돼왔다.
이에 군은 만성적인 주차난과 불법 주차 문제를 근본적으로 완화하기 위해 지난 11월 21일 한국철도공사대전충남본부(이하 철도본부)와 업무협약을 체결했다.
협약에 따라, 군은 한국철도공사 소유 부지와 군유지를 포함한 음성읍 평곡리 498-2 일원에 780㎡ 규모의 임시주차장을 조성하기로 협의하고, 관련 행정절차를 신속히 진행해 이달 본격적인 착공에 들어갔다.
이번 공사는 부지 정리와 골재 포설을 통해 주차 공간을 확보하는 것은 물론, 이용객의 혼란을 방지하기 위한 안내표지판 설치도 포함된다.
군은 이와 함께 역사 앞 택시 승강장 승하차 구획 노면 표기를 새롭게 정비해, 주민과 방문객 모두가 더욱 쾌적하고 편리하게 음성역을 이용할 수 있는 환경을 마련한다는 방침이다.
철저한 안전관리 속에 공사를 진행해, 이달 말까지 모든 공정을 마치고 주차장을 군민들에게 무료로 개방할 계획이다.
군 관계자는 “한국철도공사와의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 유휴부지를 활용해 주민 불편을 해소할 수 있는 기반이 마련됐다”며 “앞으로도 지역 교통 환경을 개선하고 주차 편의를 높이기 위해 지속적으로 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.
한편 이번 임시 공영주차장이 완공되면 음성역 이용객들의 불편이 크게 줄어들 뿐만 아니라 인근 지역의 주차난 완화에도 도움이 될 것으로 전망된다.
