파주시가 70여 년간 성매매집결지로 운영돼 온 연풍리 일대를 복지와 문화가 어우러진 시민 공간으로 전환하는 대규모 도시재생 프로젝트에 나선다.
파주시는 16일 파주시민회관 대공연장에서 500여 명의 시민이 참석한 가운데 '성매매집결지 공간 전환 비전 선포식'을 개최하고, 이 같은 계획을 공식 발표했다.
'연풍 리본(Re:born)-도시의 기억을 새롭게 엮다'를 주제로 열린 이날 행사는 폭력과 착취의 현장이었던 성매매집결지의 역사를 시민과 함께 성찰하고, 이를 열린 도시공간으로 전환하겠다는 파주시의 의지를 담았다.

파주시가 제시한 공간 전환 계획에 따르면, 2028년까지 연풍리 일대에 가족센터, 성평등광장, 치유정원, 라키비움(도서관·기록관·박물관 복합공간) 등 사회복지 및 문화시설이 들어선다.
중장기적으로는 시립요양원, 건강증진형 보건지소, 파크골프장, 공영주차장, 공공도서관 등을 단계적으로 조성해 누구나 편안하게 찾을 수 있는 열린 복합공간으로 만든다는 구상이다.
행사는 성매매집결지 변화의 필요성을 소개하는 영상으로 시작해, 여성 인권 보호와 반성매매 문화 확산에 기여한 단체와 시민 10명에 대한 유공자 표창 수여, 시민 6인의 수필 낭독 등으로 진행됐다.
