변지량 전 강원도민복지특별자문은 오는 5일(월) 오전 11시 춘천시청 브리핑룸에서 “춘천의 대전환, 지금 시작해야 합니다”라는 주제로 기자회견을 열고 2026년 춘천시장선거 출마를 공식 선언한다.
그는 이날 기자회견에서 “춘천은 지금 인구 감소, 청년 유출, 원도심 공동화, 침체된 지역경제라는 복합 위기에 직면해 있다”며 “더 이상 미봉책과 보여주기식 행정으로는 춘천의 미래를 담보할 수 없다”고 강조할 예정이다.
이어 “춘천은 잠재력이 큰 도시이지만, 그 잠재력을 현실로 만들 정치적 결단과 실행력이 부족했다”며 “이제는 도시의 틀 자체를 바꾸는 대전환이 필요하다”고 출마 배경을 밝힌다.
아울러 춘천의 미래를 바꿀 핵심 비전으로 ▲도청 자리 이궁(離宮) 복원과 역사·문화 중심지 조성 ▲중도 선사·역사문화 유적의 체계적 복원과 세계적 관광자원화 ▲캠프페이지를 부산시민공원·서울형 테마공원에 준하는 대규모 시민공원으로 조성 ▲원도심의 고층·고밀도 재생을 통한 공동화 해소 ▲수변공간을 중심으로 한 레이크 시티고층 복합도시 조성 ▲AI·첨단산업 기반의 미래형 도시 전환 등을 제시할 계획이다.
특히 “춘천은 더 이상 ‘현상 유지의 도시’가 아니라 ‘도약하는 도시’가 되어야 한다”며 “과감한 규제 혁신과 선택과 집중을 통해 춘천을 강원도의 중심, 대한민국을 대표하는 미래 도시로 만들겠다”고 역설한다.
그는 끝으로 “시민의 삶이 나아지지 않는 발전은 의미가 없다”며 “말이 아닌 결과로, 계획이 아닌 실행으로 춘천 시민께 답하겠다”고 밝힐 예정이다.
변지량 전 강원도민복지특별자문은 춘천고와 서울대 정치학과를 졸업하였으며, 강원대 정보과학대학원 정보관리 석사 과정을 마쳤다.
