북구청은 2026년 2월부터 1년간 전동휠체어와 전동스쿠터 등 전동보장구를 이용하는 등록장애인과 만 65세 이상 어르신을 대상으로 보험을 제공한다.
별도의 신청 절차 없이 자동으로 보험에 가입되며, 보험료는 전액 북구청이 부담한다.
해당 보험은 전동보장구 운행 중 제3자에게 발생한 인적·물적 피해에 대해 사고 한 건당 최대 2천만 원까지 보장한다.
또한, 형사나 민사 분쟁이 생겼을 때 변호사 선임비로 최대 300만 원을 지원하는 특약도 포함되어 있어, 사고 이후 법적 부담까지 덜어준다. 보험 보장 기간은 2026년 2월부터 1년간이며, 한도 내에서 여러 번 청구할 수 있다.
배광식 북구청장은 “전동보장구는 장애인과 어르신들에게 꼭 필요한 이동수단인 만큼, 사고에 대비하는 실질적인 대책이 중요하다”며 “이번 보험 지원 사업이 자기부담 없이 보장받을 수 있고, 변호사 지원까지 가능한 든든한 사회적 안전망이 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.
