충남 논산시의회 조용훈 의장이 양촌면 (주)코리아디펜스인더스트리(KDI) 집속탄 공장 이전을 둘러싼 찬반 갈등 속에서 "시민 알 권리와 불안 해소가 최우선"이라고 강조했다.
29일 논산시의회 의장실에서 논산시프레스협회와 가진 인터뷰에서 조 의장은 "집속탄은 민간인 피해 논란이 큰 비인도적 무기"라며 "주민들의 불안감을 가볍게 볼 수 없다"고 지적했다.
조 의장은 수도권에서 논산으로 이전한 KDI 공장의 사업 배경·경과·영향을 투명하게 공개해야 하며, 이를 정치적 공방으로 몰아가지 말아야 한다고 밝혔다.
반대 측은 집속탄의 비인도적 성격, 사고 시 주민 안전 위협, 환경 오염 우려, 사전 공론화 부족을 들어 강력 반대한다. 양촌면 주민들은 "설명 없이 공장이 들어섰다"며 이전 과정 재검토를 요구 중이다.
