세계여성평화그룹(IWPG) 글로벌 10개국(글로벌 국장 김화정)이 멕시코 타바스코 후아레스 자치대학교(UJAT)와 멕시코 국립자치대학교(UNAM)의 교수진과 학생들을 대상으로 여성평화강사교육 오리엔테이션(OT)을 성공적으로 진행했다고 30일 밝혔다.
이번 행사는 지역과 국가 차원의 평화 확산을 위한 여성 평화강사 양성에 초점을 둔 교육으로, 멕시코 대학 첫 IWPG 평화교육 정규 학사과정 도입의 교두보가 되었다.
IWPG 여성평화강사교육은 여성들을 평화의 핵심 주체로 육성하는 특화된 프로그램이다. 지난해 12월 중남미 15개국 약 300명의 수료생을 배출한 7기 연합 수료식에 이어 멕시코에서는 이번 교육을 통해 보다 체계적이고 지속적인 평화교육 확산이 기대된다.
IWPG는 앞서 UJAT와 평화교육 협력을 위한 양해각서(MOU)를 체결한 바 있으며, 이번 교육은 그 일환으로 진행되었다.
여성평화교육 평화위원장이자 UJAT 교수인 이본 아드리아나 가이탄 베르트루이는 축사를 통해 “폭력과 갈등 예방을 넘어 관용, 인내, 공감, 회복탄력성 같은 가치를 중심에 둔 교육 방식이 필요하다”며 “멕시코 첫 평화교육강사라는 자부심과 책임감을 갖고 임해주길 바란다”고 당부했다.
교육 참가자들도 각자의 소감과 평화교육에 대한 기대를 활발히 나눴다. UNAM의 파올라 온티베로스 교수는 “인류애를 바탕으로 서로 돕는 존재임을 깨닫고 평화 문화를 만들어가는 과정이 매우 뜻깊다”고 소감을 전했다.
UJAT 평화문화 프로그램 담당자인 페를라 카리나 로페즈는 “평화는 나 자신으로부터 시작된다는 뜻이 크게 와 닿았다”며 “수업을 통해 여성들이 내면적으로 성장해 평화로운 사회를 앞당길 수 있을 것이라 기대한다”고 밝혔다.
한편, IWPG는 유엔 경제사회이사회(ECOSOC) 및 글로벌소통국(DGC)에 공식 등록된 여성 NGO로, 서울에 본부를 두고 전 세계 122개국 115개 지부 및 68개국 800여 개 협력단체와 함께 ‘지속 가능한 평화 실현’을 목표로 활발한 평화활동과 교육, 법제화 운동을 펼치고 있다.
