The Daejeon Cultural Foundation Launches "Bustling Daejeon" Everyday Art Support Project

Daejeon's streets and idle spaces are being transformed into dazzling stages and galleries that fill the lives of its citizens. The Daejeon Cultural Foundation announced that it will simultaneously hold open calls for support for the "2026 Bustling Daejeon" and "2026 Free Art Space" projects to foster an environment where citizens can enjoy art in their daily lives.

"Free Art Space" supports privately operated performance and exhibition facilities by identifying and opening them to the public free of charge. The goal is to ensure that art is not confined to specific performance venues, but rather permeates neighborhoods and alleyways.

Selected spaces will be open to the public free of charge from April to December. The foundation will subsidize 80% of the monthly rent and a portion of the management fees to ease the burden on space operators.

Applicants must be located in Daejeon, at least 15 pyeong (approximately 49 square meters) in size, capable of hosting cultural and artistic activities, and have secured a minimum 12-month lease. Applications must be submitted in person at the Daejeon Cultural Foundation from February 24th to 26th.

The street performance project "Deulsseok Deulsseok in Daejeon," which began in 2012 and has become a symbolic cultural brand of Daejeon, is also gaining momentum. Street artists selected through this competition will perform diverse performances, directly engaging with citizens on major streets and squares throughout Daejeon from April to October.

Recruitment categories include **music, traditional arts, and mixed arts (theater, dance, etc.)**. Any individual or group of seven or fewer who resides or works in Daejeon is eligible to apply.

Selected teams will receive two performance opportunities and a performance fee of up to 2.1 million won, depending on the number of participants. Applications can be submitted online through the Daejeon Cultural Foundation's Lifestyle Culture Portal from February 25th to 27th.

Through these projects, the foundation aims to provide artists with creative and performance opportunities, while also realizing the "everydayization of art," allowing citizens to enjoy high-quality culture without the expense or travel required.

Baek Chun-hee, CEO of the Daejeon Cultural Foundation, stated, "Only when art naturally permeates everyday life can it truly transform citizens' lives." She added, "We hope that many capable artists and space operators will participate so that Daejeon's streets and hidden spaces can serve as bridges connecting citizens' lives with art."
