교육과 돌봄의 의미를 다시 짚어보는 북콘서트가 백제의 고도 공주에서 열렸다.
조영종 교육학 박사는 7일 오후 공주 구도심 ‘공주마을 ON’ 2층 소극장에서 저서 『다시, 돌봄의 길 위에서』 북콘서트를 개최했다.
이번 행사는 당진을 시작으로 천안, 서산·태안, 홍성·예산, 보령·서천에 이어 여섯 번째로 열린 ‘찾아뵙는 북콘서트’다. 행사에는 지역의 교원, 학부모, 시민 등 100여 명이 참석해 따뜻한 울림의 시간을 함께했다.
이날 무대에서 조 박사는 42년간 교사, 교감, 교장, 장학사·장학관, 그리고 교육행정가로 걸어온 자신의 여정을 돌아보며 “학교의 진정한 변화는 돌봄에서 시작된다”고 강조했다. 그는 8년간 루게릭병을 앓던 아내를 곁에서 돌보며 체득한 ‘돌봄의 철학’을 교육의 언어로 새롭게 해석했다.
조 박사는 “충남교육의 자리로 다시 걸어 들어가 학생과 교사, 학부모 모두가 함께 숨 쉬는 돌봄 중심의 교육을 만들고 싶다”며 “이 길은 누군가를 이기려는 경쟁이 아니라, 누군가를 끝까지 지켜내기 위한 결심”이라고 말했다.
그는 또한 “UN과 UNESCO가 제시한 ESG·ESD 관점에서 100년 지속 가능한 충남교육을 설계하고 싶다”며 “대전·충남 행정·교육통합이 이뤄지더라도 지역의 아이들을 위한 헌신만은 바뀌지 않을 것”이라고 덧붙였다.
북콘서트 현장에서는 참석자들의 깊은 공감과 눈물도 이어졌다. 한 어머니는 “책 속 주인공의 투병 이야기를 들으며 아들을 떠올려 울음을 참지 못했다”고 말했고, 다른 참석자는 “가족 돌봄의 경험을 바탕으로 교육의 본질을 되찾자는 저자의 이야기에서 큰 위로를 받았다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
공주 출신 한 교육계 원로는 “행정·교육통합 논의가 진행 중인 시점에 이런 교육철학을 가진 사람이 있어 든든하다”며 “조 박사가야말로 지역 교육을 이끌 적임자”라고 평가했다.
한편, 『다시, 돌봄의 길 위에서』 북콘서트는 오는 20일 논산문화원에서 논산·계룡·부여·금산 지역을 대상으로, 27일에는 아산청소년문화센터에서 아산지역을 대상으로 이어질 예정이다.
