설 명절을 앞둔 8일 오전, 대전 서구 둔산동 대전본부 회관이 다채로운 언어와 향기로 가득 찼다. 이주노동자·유학생·지역주민이 함께한 ‘떡 나눔 축제 & 어린이 말하기 대회’가 열린 것이다.
(사)대전노사상생발전협의회와 한국노총 전국외국인산업노동조합 충청권본부가 주최 한 이 행사는 대전에서 활동 중인 약 700여 명 규모의 방글라데시 커뮤니티 교류를 지원하고, 다문화 구성원들이 지역사회와 더 깊이 연결되도록 돕기 위해 마련됐다.
행사장 한편에서는 설을 상징하는 흰 떡이 나누어졌고, 다른 쪽에서는 쌀가루로 만든 방글라데시 전통 간식 ‘피타(Pitha)’와 ‘바파 피타’, ‘한데시 떡’이 판매돼 많은 이들의 발길을 모았다. 서로 다른 양국의 명절 음식을 맛보면서 참가자들은 자연스레 대화를 나누고 문화를 이해하는 시간을 보냈다.
아이들의 목소리로 채워진 ‘벵골어·한국어 어린이 말하기 대회’도 큰 관심을 끌었다. 또 한편에서는 고용·체류 제도, 임금체불, 취업 상담 등 실생활에 도움이 되는 이주노동자 종합 상담 코너가 운영돼 실질적인 도움을 제공했다.

행사를 주관한 김홍욱 (사)대전노사상생발전협의회 이사장은 “문화 교류를 넘어, 이주노동자들이 지역사회의 한 구성원으로 안정적으로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 돕는 자리가 되길 바란다”고 전했다.
한국노총 전국외국인산업노동조합 충청권본부 김홍표 위원장도 “이미 다문화 사회로 접어든 만큼, 상호 이해와 협력이 지역 공동체 발전의 핵심”이라며 “이주노동자와 시민이 함께 성장하는 사회로 나아가야 한다”고 강조했다.
참가자 중 한 방글라데시 노동자는 “명절 음식을 나누며 아이들이 무대에 서는 모습을 보니, 대전이 우리 가족의 새로운 고향처럼 느껴졌다”고 소감을 밝혔다.
한편 이번 행사에는 오토셰프㈜, 유성플랜트치과, ㈜인코비즈 등 지역 기업과 단체, 그리고 개인 후원자들의 따뜻한 참여가 이어지며 의미를 더했다. 지역사회의 관심 덕분에 행사는 화합과 나눔의 분위기 속에 마무리됐다.

On one side of the venue, white rice cakes, symbolizing Seollal, were distributed, while on the other side, traditional Bangladeshi snacks made with rice flour, such as "Pitha," "Bappa Pitha," and "Handesi Rice Cake," were sold, attracting many visitors. As participants sampled the diverse holiday foods of both countries, they naturally engaged in conversation and cultural exchange.
The "Bengali-Korean Children's Speech Contest," filled with children's voices, also attracted significant attention. Furthermore, a comprehensive counseling corner for migrant workers offered practical assistance, covering topics such as employment and residency systems, unpaid wages, and job counseling.

A Bangladeshi worker among the participants commented, "Seeing the children perform on stage while sharing holiday food made Daejeon feel like our family's new home."
Meanwhile, the event was further enriched by the generous participation of local businesses, organizations, and individual sponsors, including Autochef Co., Ltd., Yuseong Plant Dental Clinic, and Incobiz Co., Ltd. Thanks to the community's interest, the event concluded in an atmosphere of harmony and sharing.
