안전보건지킴이는 '중대재해 처벌 등에 관한 법률' 시행으로 발주기관의 안전관리 책임이 강화됨에 따라, 현장 중심의 예방 활동을 체계적으로 추진하기 위해 운영된다. 산업안전보건 분야 관련 경력을 갖춘 민간 전문가로 구성된다.
지킴이들은 군이 발주한 공사와 각종 사업 수행 현장을 우선 대상으로 2인 1조 점검을 실시해 안전관리 실태를 집중 확인하고 개선 사항을 지도할 계획이다. 필요 시 관내 일반 사업장에 대해서도 안전지도와 산업안전보건 감시 활동을 병행해 산업재해 예방을 지원한다.
군은 발주공사에 대한 선제적 안전점검을 통해 중대산업재해 발생 가능성을 최소화하고, 안전 사각지대에 놓이기 쉬운 소규모 사업장에 대한 관리도 단계적으로 확대해 나간다는 방침이다.
