산림청 사업으로 추진되는 이번 사업은 총사업비 130억 원(국비 50%, 도비 15%, 군비 35%)을 투입해 단성면 대잠리 일원 5천㎡ 부지에 조성될 예정이다.
사업 대상지는 소선암자연휴양림과 소선암 치유의 숲, 유아숲체험원과 인접해 기존 산림휴양·치유시설과의 연계 효과가 클 것으로 기대된다.
건축물은 연면적 3,150㎡, 지상 3층 규모의 목조 건축물로 조성되며 고품격 웰니스 시설이 집약된 복합 공간으로 꾸며질 계획이다.
1층에는 지역 식재료를 활용한 약선식당과 약초사우나, 다목적 체험실이 들어서고, 2층에는 한방 진료·상담실과 요가·필라테스실이 마련된다.
3층과 옥상에는 고급 숙박시설과 한방·약초 카페가 조성돼 방문객에게 차별화된 치유형 관광 경험을 제공할 예정이다.
사업 추진을 위해 단양군은 지난해 12월 군의회의 공유재산 관리계획 승인을 받은 데 이어, 지난달 사업 신청서를 충북도에 제출했다.
향후 사업이 최종 선정되면 지방재정 투자심사와 예산 반영, 군유지 인접 토지 매입 등 관련 행정절차를 거쳐 내년부터 4개년 사업으로 추진할 계획이다.
군 관계자는 “단양군은 산지 비율이 도내에서 가장 높은 83%에 이르는 지역으로, 산지 자원을 활용한 관광 및 지역경제 활성화가 중요한 과제”라며 “사업 대상지인 대잠리(선암골)는 지난해 충청북도 제1호 생태관광지역으로 선정된 곳으로 월악산국립공원 경계와 맞닿아 있어 생태적 가치와 기존 인프라가 조화를 이루는 최적의 입지”라고 말했다.
이어 “자연 훼손을 최소화하면서도 새로운 관광 트렌드에 부합하는 산림복합문화센터를 조성해 체류형 관광 기반을 강화하겠다”고 덧붙였다.
한편, 목조건축 실연사업은 도내에서도 확산되는 추세다.
