지역안전지수는 교통사고, 화재, 범죄, 생활안전, 자살, 감염병 등 6개 분야의 안전 관련 통계를 바탕으로 지자체의 안전 수준을 계량화한 지표다. 1등급에 가까울수록 안전한 지역임을 뜻한다.
제천시는 2024년부터 2년 연속 지역안전지수가 개선되는 성과를 거뒀으며, 앞으로도 지속적인 안전지수 향상을 목표로 실효성 있는 대책을 단계적으로 추진할 계획이다.
