【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 진천군은 지역 내 장애인과 노인의 이동권 향상과 경제적 부담 완화를 위해 전동보조기기(전동스쿠터·전동휠체어) 배상책임보험 지원 사업을 올해도 지속 추진한다고 밝혔다.
현행 도로교통법에 따르면 전동보조기기는 차마에 포함되지 않고 보행자에 해당해 인도를 이용해야 한다.
그러나 보행자와의 접촉 사고나 적치물로 인한 사고 위험이 있어 사고 발생 시 운행자가 부담해야 할 배상금에 대한 우려가 제기돼 왔다.
이에 군은 사고 피해자에 대한 신속한 보상과 장애인·어르신의 경제적 부담을 덜어주기 위해 2023년 충북 도내 최초로 관련 조례를 제정하고 전동보조기기 배상책임보험 지원 사업을 시행해 오고 있다.
전동보조기기 배상책임보험은 전동휠체어와 전동스쿠터 운행 중 발생한 사고로 제3자에게 피해를 입힌 경우를 보장하는 보험이다.
보행자를 다치게 하거나 자동차 등 타인의 재물에 손해를 입힌 경우 최대 3천만 원 한도(자기부담금 5만 원)까지 보장된다.
다만 제3자 배상책임보험의 특성상 운행자의 신체상해와 전동보조기기 자체 손해는 보장 대상에서 제외된다.
보험사는 한화손해보험이며 보장 기간은 2027년 1월 31일까지다.
