브레이크뉴스 문홍철 기자= 동아에스티는 서울시 동대문구 용두동 본사에서 ‘2026년 성장호르몬제 기증식’을 개최하고, 저신장증 어린이 157명에게 10억 원 규모의 성장호르몬제 ‘그로트로핀’을 지원한다고 27일 밝혔다.
동아에스티는 성장호르몬제 ‘그로트로핀-Ⅱ 주사액 아이펜 30IU’를 한마음사회복지재단에 전달한다. 재단은 소아내분비 전문의 추천과 서류 심사를 거쳐 지원 대상을 선정한다. 대상자로 선정된 저소득가정 저신장증 어린이들은 1년간 저신장증 치료에 필요한 성장호르몬제를 지원받게 된다.
저신장증은 전체 어린이의 약 3%에서 발생하며, 이들 중 약 20%는 성장호르몬 결핍, 특발성 저신장증, 염색체 이상 등 병적인 저신장증이다. 저신장증 치료를 위해 성장호르몬제를 장기간 투여해야 하지만 비용 부담으로 적절한 치료 시기를 놓치는 사례도 적지 않다.
동아에스티는 2013년부터 저신장 어린이 지원 사업을 지속해 오고 있으며, 2025년까지 약 1300명의 어린이들에게 약 80억 원 규모의 성장호르몬제를 지원했다.
동아에스티 관계자는 “저신장증 치료가 필요함에도 불구하고 비용 부담으로 기회를 놓치는 어린이들이 없도록 돕는 것이 중요하다고 생각한다”며 “앞으로도 더 많은 아이들이 건강하게 성장할 수 있도록 성장호르몬제 지원을 아끼지 않겠다”고 말했다.
