대구시장 출마가 점쳐지던 이진훈 전 수성구청장이 갑작스레 대구 중·남구 국회의원 보궐선거 출마를 선언하면서 지역정가에 갖가지 해석이 이어지며 파장이 일고 있다.
14일 이진훈 전 수성구청장은 오전 11시 국민의힘 대구시당에서 기자회견을 개최하여 오는 3월 9일 치러질 대구 중·남구 보궐선거 출마를 공식선언했다.

이진훈 전 수성구청장은 “중·남구 출마에 대해 한달 정도 고민의 기간이 있었고 홍준표 의원의 권유와 상의하는 과정도 있었다.”면서 “발표만 갑작스러울 뿐 숙고한 결과”라고 말했다.
그러면서 그는 “제가 대구시장에서 홍준표 의원과 경쟁하면 이길 수 있겠나”라며 홍 의원의 대구시장 출마설을 시사 하는 발언을 이어갔다.
이 전 구청장은 홍준표 의원의 대구시장 출마 여부를 묻는 기자의 질문에 “저는 그럴 가능성도 있다고 보고 있다. 다만 저한테 직접적인 언급은 없었다.”면서 “문희갑 전 대구시장 등 지역 원로 분들이 권유하고 있는 것으로 알고 있다.”고 말했다.
한편 당대표와 출마여부에 대한 논의가 있었는지에 대해 묻는 기자의 질문에는 “따로 언급하지 않겠다”며 삼가는 모습을 보였다.
