대구한의대 변창훈 총장이 제9대 총장으로 선임되어 3번째 임기를 이어가게 된 가운데 4일 취임식이 개최되었다.
변창훈 총장은 지난 2021년 12월 23일 제9대 총장으로 선임되어 오는 2025년 12월 22일까지 4년간 총장직을 수행하게 되었다.

4일 삼성캠퍼스 복지관 대강당에서 진행된 변창훈 총장의 취임식에는 학교법인 제한학원 기우항 이사장을 비롯해 변정환 명예총장, 윤두현 국회의원, 홍원화(경북대 총장) 한국대학교육협의회 회장, 장제국(동서대 총장) 사립대총장협의회 회장, 권순태(안동대 총장) 국공립대총장협의회 회장, 이재수 총동창회 회장, 노기원 총동창회 고문, 교직원, 학생, 동문 등 150여명이 참석했다.
온라인으로 생중계된 이번 취임식은 ▲총장 약력소개 ▲이사장 식사 ▲교기 인계 ▲변창훈 총장 취임사 ▲내빈 축사 ▲총학생회장 축하 꽃다발 증정 등의 순으로 진행됐다.
특히, 이재익 총학생회장과 최유빈 총학생회 여학생대표는 변창훈 총장에게 재임기간동안 대학발전과 학생들을 위해 열심히 뛰어달라는 의미로 신발을 선물해 취임식의 의미를 더했다.
변창훈 총장은 지난 4년간 PILOT사업과 대학혁신지원사업, 산업연계교육 활성화 선도 대학 사업(PRIME), 대학인문역량강화 사업(CORE), 사회맞춤형 산학협력선도대학 육성 사업(LINC+), 지방대학특성화 사업(CK-1), K-MOOC선도대학 사업(K-MOOC), 산업단지캠퍼스조성 사업, 대학 평생교육체제 지원 사업, 고교교육 기여대학 지원 사업, 국제협력선도대학 육성지원 사업에 선정되는 등 적극적인 정부재정지원사업의 참여를 통해 획기적인 교육 환경개선과 대외 경쟁력 강화에 힘써온 것으로 알려진다.
또한 2020년과 2021년 2년 연속 대학부문 코스메디컬 산학협력 분야에서 국가서비스대상을 수상했고 2015년에 이어 2021년에 또 다시 중소기업기술혁신대전 산학협력부문 대통령 표창을 수상했다.
뿐만 아니라 지역전략산업인 K-뷰티의 확산을 위하여 글로벌코스메틱비즈니스센터 의 건립과 화장품특화산업단지의 조성, 경상북도 화장품 공동브랜드인 클루앤코(CLEWNCO) 베트남 매장 개설 등 대학과 지자체가 상생하여 고용 창출 및 지역경제 활성화에 기여하는 모범 사례를 만들어 가고 있다고 평가받고 있다.
변창훈 총장은 취임사에서“한없는 영광과 막중한 책임감을 느낀다. 앞으로 4년은 대학 발전과 번영을 위한 각고의 노력과 헌신의 시간이 되어야 한다는 많은 부담감이 있지만, 민족의학인 한의학의 과학화와 세계화라는 건학이념을 계승 발전시켜 첨단학문과 글로벌 인재양성을 통해 국가발전에 기여하는 대학경영을 해 나가겠다”는 포부를 전했다.
